a. Vocabulary: Define and Describe each term in chapters 1 and 5 by drawing a picture or creating an
analogy or mnemonic device.
b. Workbook: Complete the Ch. 1 and 5 reading guides.
c. Write the following Free Response Questions (FRQs). See details online on how to complete Psychology
FRQs. Make sure you DEFINE and APPLY each term and ANSWER the prompt completely. Help on
writing FRQs can be found on the class webpage.
FRQ:
Professor Clune received a grant to study the relationship between childhood obesity and watching TV. Answer the
following questions about Professor Clunes research study.
Part A
Explain how Professor Clune could use each of the following research methods to study this topic:
o Case Study
o Survey
o Naturalistic Observation
Part B
Design an experiment Professor Clune could use to investigate the topic, including the following terms in the
context of your design:
o Operational Definition
o Independent and Dependent Variables
o Random assignment
Part C
Explain how Professor Clunes experimental design would confirm to ethical guidelines.
Part D
Explain how Professor Clune would use statistics (including at least two measures of central tendency) to
examine the data from the study to reach a conclusion.
Draw a scatterplot graph showing the correlation.

Introduction: In order to be successful in college courses, reading the textbook is a key to that success. AP Psychology
requires reading and studying outside of class. Do not simply skim the readings looking for the answers or bolded
vocabulary, make sure you read each section actively and take time to understand what you are writing. If you are
willing to put in the necessary effort, you will succeed.
Directions: Read unit 1 and 5 in your textbook. The following questions/assignments must be written in your own
handwriting. You should be putting the information from the book in your own words! (This makes you think more
deeply about the information, which will help you understand it and remember it better.)
