Summary and Reflection
In this article, the author talks about two themes in regards to our
educational system. The first theme is dealing with how our students learn in
the United States. The author points out that each individual student learns
in a different way or style. Modifying schools in way that match and figure
out each students way of learning can motivate and improve our school
system. The author describes this view as student centric learning. The
second theme deals with the technological advances in the United States
and how it can create a more sufficient learning environment for students.
To go into further detail in regards to the first theme, the article had
mentioned how in todays educational system was designed at a time where
standardization was seen as a virtue, it is an intricately interdependent
system. In response to this statement, the author argued that this
standardized approach to educational system does not benefit students well
because the ticket to every student learning in a different way has to do with
students soaking in all the knowledge they can.
The second theme implements students centric education with the
technological advances. Incorporating these two can reduce the class time
requirements, allowing students to have more time doing important

business. One other benefit in the future would be allowing students speak in
front of virtual audiences to practice public speaking, or creating images and
historical artifacts in what used to be reality. The importance of technology
can enable students not only to learn more efficiently in the classroom, but
to be prepared for the real world since our world deals with many electrical
and technological advances.
I was very pleased with the article as I learned how and why we should
incorporate technology in our schools. The point that I found was the most
interesting was the first theme that was mentioned. It caught my attention to
see how our educational system was created in monolithic and standardized
way. I believe this type of system needs to change because not all people
learn the same way and style.
In my opinion, my prior experiences align with the ideas in this article.
Since I am 21 years of age and have little teaching experience, I can relate
myself as a student. Growing up, I have been all around technology. Not
using much technology in grade school and transitioning using technology in
high school, I could tell there was a difference. I was able to access more
information efficiently and was able to communicate with other classmates
and teachers more than before. As I pursue my teaching career, providing
this type of information to parents can help them prepare and support how
incorporating technology in the classroom will benefit their children.
