This document contains two groups of questions for a chemistry exam. Group A contains 10 questions that require short answers about topics like extensive and intensive properties, Grignard reactions, ethers, resonance structures of phenol, pH calculations, redox reactions, conversions between functional groups, conductance, examples of industrial processes, and whether copper sulfate solution is acidic or basic. Group B contains 4 questions that require longer explanations, including calculating the thickness of silver electrodeposited from current over time, notes on alcohol oxidation and nitrobenzene reduction, predicting a replacement reaction based on standard reduction potentials, and explaining electrophilic substitution and suitable tests for benzaldehyde.

1. Define the terms: (a) extensive properties (b) intensive properties. 2. Starting from a suitable Grignard's reagent how would you obtain 2,2-dimethylpropanol. 3. What are symmetrical and unsymmetrical ethers? Give example and their IUPAC names. 4. Draw resonance hybrid structure of Phenol and Phenoxide ion. Which one is stable and why? 5. Calculate the pH value of 10-7M HCl solution. 6. How many coulombs of electricity are required to change 100ml of 0.1M Cr2O72- to Cr3+? 7. Carry out the following conversions: (i) phenol to anisole and (ii) ethyne to ethanol. 8. Taking an example of acidified KMnO4 solution derive the relation between equivalent and molar conductance.
9. Give an example of : (a) Oxo Process and (b) Esterification.
10. An aqueous solution of copper sulphate is acidic, basic or neutral? Explain. (Group B) Attempt any two questions: 11. Silver is electrodeposited on a metallic vessel of surface area 800cm2 by passing a current of 0.2 ampere for 3 hours. Calculate the thickness of silver deposited. Given the density of silver as 10.47g/cc and atomic mass = 107.92amu. 12. Write short notes on: (any one) (a) Oxidation of primary, secondary and tertiary alcohol. (b) Reduction reactions of nitrobenzene in different media. 13. Predict whether zinc and silver react with 1M sulphuric acid to give out hydrogen gas or not. Given that the standard reduction potentials of zinc and silver are -0.76V and 0.8V respectively. 14.Explain why electrophilic substitution in bezaldehyde takes place at meta position? Which of the following test is more suitable for benzaldehyde and why? (a) Tollen's Test and (b) Fehling's test.
