ForourFinalPortfolioyouaskedustopicktwoofouressaystorevise.OutofthethreeessaysI
havewrittenforyouthisquarterIhavechosenWritingProject1andWritingProject2.Ichose
todoWritingProject1becauseIfeelasthoughIhavegainedamuchdeeperunderstandingof
howgenresworkandhowtheirconventionsplayanimportantroleonthegenre.Rewritingthe
paperIfoundmyselfhavinganeasiertimedescribingthegenreconventionsthroughoutmy
paper.SinceWritingProject1wehavelearnednewwaystolookatgenres.Wehavebeen
providedwithnewreadingssuchas"WritingwithPictures"byScottMcCloudor"Reading
Games"byKarenRosenbergthathavehelpeddevelopourwriting.Thesenewreadingshave
showedusnewwaysofwritingandanalyzingthatIfeelhelpedmymakeWritingProject1
better.ThesearesimilarreasonsastowhyIchoseWritingProject2hasthesecondpaperto
revise.ThenewresourcesandskillswehavegainedsinceIwroteWP2havehelpedmenotice
moreliteracypracticesinmyGeographyclass.IfeelasthoughIhaveabetterunderstandingof
whatliteracypracticesareandhowtheywork,becauseofthisIfeelasthoughIcanmakemore
senseofthepapersinceIhaveabetterunderstandingofwhatwasbeingaskedintheprompt.At
firstWritingProject2seemedquitedifficultsinceIhadneverpaidattentiontoliteracypractices
inotherclassespriortothisassignment.Now,becauseofWritingProject2Iamabletomore
easilynoticethepracticesusedinclass.ThishasallowedmetobeabletoelaborateonWriting
Project2duringtherevisionanddemonstrateabetterunderstandingofwhathavingliteracy
practicesmeans.RevisingthesepapershasallowedmetoreflectonallthatIhavelearnedsince
Writing1.Ihaveacquiredmanynewwritingskillsandhaveobtainedabetterunderstandingof
whatgoodwritingreallyentitles.IfeelasthoughIhavegrownalotasawriter.Writing1
introducedmyclassmatesandItobasicskillsforwriting,wewereabletolearnnewtechniques
thatwehadnotacquiredinhighschoolandwecontinuedtobuildupthosebasicskillsin
Writing2.WiththeserevisionsIwantedtoshowyouthatIhaveinfactgrownasawriterI
wantedtorewritethefirsttwopapersIwrotethisquarter.Ibelievethatmyabilityasawriterhad
grownthatthatIamcapableofproducingbetterqualitywritingnow.

ThroughoutWriting1courseandWriting2IhavenoticedIhavebecomeabetterwriter.
LookingbackatwhatIhadwritteninWriting1Inoticedthatmysentencesmakemuchmore
senseandaremorecoherent.IneverypaperIwroteforyouInoticedthatthecommentaboutmy
commasplices,nowIhavenoticedthatthosecommentsarenolongertherethisquarterin
Writing2.ThischangedoesnotonlymeantIfixedoneofthemostnoticeableflawsinmy
writingbutitledtomefeelingmoreconfidentinmywriting.Somethingthatreallyhelpedme
overcomethisconstantmistakewasthepeerreview,bylookingathowmyclassmateswrote

theirpapersIwasabletocomeupwithnewwaystostructuresentencesandavoidthecomma
splices.FortherevisionsofthepaperthechapteronshapereallyhelpedmenoticewaysthatI
couldrevisemypapers.ThemostsignificantthingsInoticedafterreadingthatchapterwasthatI
hadmanyshortsentencesthatnowseemedtobeveryrepetitive.Thechaptermademerealize
thatbycombiningcertainsentenceandcuttingoutrelativeclausesIcouldmakethemmore
coherent.ThereadingthechapterandtheinclassactivityInoticedIhasalotofsentencesthat
couldbeshortenedandcombined.OnceIchangedthesentencesthatIfeltcouldberevisedI
rereadmypapers.Theyflowedmoresmoothlyandmademuchmoresensetome.Ifeelas
thoughthatchaptermadeasignificantchangeinmywritingandthattheseversionsareWP1and
WP2aresignificantlybetterthantheonesIturnedin.

NotonlydoIfeelasthoughthewritinginmyrevisedpapersisbetter,Ifeelasthoughmy
overallwritinghasimprovedsinceIstartedWriting1.LastquarterIwasafraidofsaying"I"too
much,Irealizedthatbynotusing"I"inordertoexplainmypointofviewIwasnotallowingmy
writingtobethebestthatitcouldbe.OnceIlearnedthatinsomecasesitwasokaytousethat
pronounwritingessaysbecamealotmoreeasierandmorefun.

Anothermajorcontributortomywritingwasthereadingsthatwehaddoneoverthecourse.
Theymadeiteasiertounderstandthatdifferentcomplexrulesofwiring.ReadingsuchasReid's
piece"TenWaystoThinkAboutWriting"andBunn'spiece"HowtoReadLikeaWriter"have
reallyhelpedmedevelopasawriter.Thesewritingshavehelpedmeviewwritinginadifferent
perspectiveandbybeingabletoseewritingdifferentlyIwasabletotakeanewapproachwith
mywritingthatIfeelhascontributedtomybecomingabetterwriter.EventhoughIfeelas
thoughIhavebecomeabetterwriterIfeelasifthereismorethatIcouldworkon.Afterreading
somepartsofthestylechaptersInoticedthatthereismuchmorethanIneedtoworkonifIwant
tomeetthestandardsofallthechapters.Forexample,Chapter4onCohesionandCoherence
showedmethatthereisalotIcanimproveonwhenitcomestothe"tradeoff"ofmysentences.
IfeelasthoughIcandobetterwhenitcomestothecoherenceofmysentencesandthatis
somethingIwouldreallyhavelikedtospendmoretimeonnowthatIhavemoreknowledgeon
writing.

AlthoughIseemanythingsthatIcanimproveonIalsoseethingsthatIfeelIdidwell.Whenin
peerreviewIwastoldseveraltimesIwasdoingwhatthepromptasked.Thisincreasedmy
confidenceasawriter.WhenIwritethecontentIamusinginmypaperistherightone,just
puttingittogetherincoherentsentencesiswhatIstrugglethemoston.Ifeelasthoughmyideas
havebeenclearlypresentedthroughoutmypapers,inbothWriting1andWriting2.
