3.2 Plan, structure and

sequence learning programs
Plan lesson sequences
using knowledge of student
learning, content and
effective teaching strategies.

This artefact is a
lesson plan taught
to a stage 3 open
learning classroom
cohort of 56
students in
November 2015.

I prepared this lesson to come second

in a sequence of four lessons. It
allowed students to build upon and
consolidate their introductory
knowledge of figurative language.
Students work collaboratively and
share ideas to determine the figurative
language used in the phrase.

By effectively planning this

lesson in a series of lessons
surrounding the concept of
Figurative Language I was
able to formatively assess
students current
understanding and
misconceptions to determine
effective teaching strategies
for future lessons (APST 3.2).
My mentor teacher provided
lesson observation feedback:
An interesting variation on
consolidating learning from
previous lessons very
engaging for all students!
Built up students interest by
revising previous learning
then giving a practical and
relevant task to practise key
concepts of determining
figurative language.

3.3 Use teaching strategies

Include a range of teaching
strategies.
3.4 Select and use resources
Demonstrate knowledge of
a range of resources,
including ICT, that engage
students in their learning.

In planning this resource I reflected on

the most effective and engaging
methods to deliver the content, I chose
a PowerPoint presentation. I
considered the resources needed by
the students to implement the lesson
and ensured they were adequate
numbers and working equipment.

By planning a resource that was

unique, interactive and engaging for
the students I was able to provide

students with the opportunity to apply

their previous knowledge to determine
the figurative language used in each
phrase.

This lesson has incorporated

a variety of teaching
strategies to support the
participation and
engagement of all students
(APST 3.3).
By creating an interactive
resource, which included the
ICT to engage students in
their learning, I was able to
tailor the learning experience
to challenge the students
current level of
understanding (APST 3.4)
