Year 10 Music Unit 4

Composition and Arrangement

Assessment rubric
Due Date 3rd of November
TASK
Students are to create a 3 minute music composition that showcases
some of the theory they have learned throughout the unit.
Sampling is not to be used and there must be at least one melodic track in
the composition.
Students must submit the finished 3 min track as well as a save file of the
project.
Students must also write a report reflecting on the music making process.
Areas to include are:
Composition The process of coming up with ideas and writing your song
Arrangement Arranging your composition to accommodate musical
ideas, build-ups, breakdowns, loops and creating interest in your piece
Recording The process of actually recording your instruments, vocals or
MIDI performances.
Editing/Mixing Post production of your recording stage, use of effects,
levels, panning and EQ
Remember, the music making process is an organic process and these 4
stages are interchangeable and often lead into one another.
Students must also complete a collaboration report, noting down how
they've used feedback to improve their compositions.
