What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

Conventions of this music genre include an impressionist style. The music
video often acts as a way to provide a deeper meaning to the song. These
music video can often be seen having an art focus, creating a visually
unique and abstract video, no video from this genre is ever the same. That
being said some videos can be very simple and just involve shots of streets
and urban environments, for example in another music video created for the
Artist i am focusing on Mount Kimble the video consisted entirely of
photographs the artists took on a tour of Japan.
videos however tend to take in an performance aspect
as well, sometimes the video will focus solely on the artist
this creates a connection between the viewer and the artist
and makes the audience feel like they are in direct
communication with the artist, such as in this video for
Trimbles song Strike a pose.

However the reason behind most videos taking a narrative based approach
for their music videos is simply because most of the music released in this
genre is instrumental, therefore a performance based music video would
quickly grow stale unless the artist is particularly innovative with their
production style.

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative;
narrative; impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

I will meet these codes and conventions by taking a cinematography

approach to the production of the music video I will aim to produce a music
video that is open to the audiences interpretation, I will take a narrative
based approach to the video in order to help convey the meaning of the
song. i am also going to take a simple but interesting approach to the
production by using a number of different camera angles which i will then
quickly cut together in editing to create a tornado effect of visual
information.
From reading the lyrics and listening to the song in a variety of settings i
tried to find the undertones and the overall mood of the song, i finally
realised the tone whenever i was returning home from work at night i
realised the main emotion conveyed through the track was loneliness. this
feeling of isolation i felt carried throughout most of the songs of this genre
as more often than not the music is produced by people who sit alone in
their bedrooms surrounded by various pieces of audio equipment so the
feeling of being alone often bleeds through into the music. Therefore i will
centre my narrative around characters who only act alone, in order to
communicate this overriding sense of loneliness, i will also record them
during the twilight hours when no one is around to further heighten this
sense that they are truly alone.
Costume
I will pick a costume that will match the alternative style of the target audiences
alternative style, my lead actress has a variety of face piercings and dip dyed pink
hair. from my research i found that that target audience enjoys shopping in smaller
vintage clothing stores and in charity shops as it is there that they often find odd
and unique clothes to wear and heighten their originality therefore i will make
sure my alternative protagonist is dressed accordingly in order so the target
audience feels like they can relate to her. on the flip side i will dress my male
protagonist in a way which will alienate him from the TA he will be dressed in
workout gear with large muscles, he will be very athletic, this is almost the exact
opposite of the TA who tend to not work out as intensely. However he will be
performing almost in the exact same way to the female character but in a separate
environment. this will communicate to my target audience that the characters are
linked together through their mutual loneliness.

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

These videos have influenced my decisions as they have helped

my understand how i can effectively capture the urban environment
in an interesting way.
Specifically the video for the song
Cirrus by Bonobo inspired me to
use the idea of layering different
visual information to create on
thing as in the climax of the video
all the stock footage used in the
vide combines to create a giant
monster. The music video for the
song Canal by New York rap trio
Ratking influenced how i can sue
colour correction and graphics for effect, the
whole video is covered by the text seen in the
screen shot and i thought i could use something
like that for effect in my video. I used another
Mount Kimble music video for inspiration also
they use a hand held shake camera and
focus on a number of individuals living their
lives, i felt that if i produce a video that is
cohesive with mount imbibes previous work
that it would satisfy the target audience as
they would feel at home.

Lyrics
Insert the song lyrics below
[Verse 1: King Krule]
Now did you see me, I killed a man
They all stayed down, but he chose to stand
And girl, when did it hit you deep
To watch his mind seep
Across the pavement, beat down, slaps the meat
Each and every single one of your feet
That you will ever know
The limitations of a clone
They kept me on my throne
The silk space of time
Covered in a trace of slime
It's not here to appear for the tears
The mere hatred that flows through the years
The silent calm, washed violent charm
Held in the depths of a tyrant's palm
Expect the ides, to lay by his side

And bear with the sight of just another man's mind

[Verse 2: King Krule]

I must mistake the high
Cool these breaks, these stakes will lie
I was not born to be taught
I was born to be exposed in the storm
And held awhile
In the hot heat in the mother
Sat by the feet of your lover
Feet down, decede one another
I dug through these graves to uncover
A pile of bones mixed with violent tones
Forced through the earth with these silent drones
I'll seek through time, evading the mimes
I'll breathe in time and of the guide's sign

[Verse 3: King Krule]

You trust these snakes to die?
With all the ways you trace the climb
Go up the ladder, made from the latter
Made even sadder, but he born to an adder

I'm on the depth of a bridge

You took your time to plant a seed
A seed of hate, the plagues you played
So bear witness to the strength and states
You want to be the body of song
Are you strong across this glum
Pinnacle of crumbs
See these hands and see what they crave to be done
You are, you are this useless art that's gone too far
You are, you are
You are a body of song
You pave me down to the dirt and scum
Look what I've become
See these hands, these actions that I've done
Walk bear beaten down
Black blue brains out
This drain will be clogged
Let their brains be drowned
Walk bear beaten down
These Black beat brains out
These drains be clogged
These brains be drowned

Meaning of the song

the song is a recount of a violent robbery the lyrics reflects back on what happens
and spills his secret to a girl. it tells the story of how the narrator can never be with
anyone as he is too dangerous. the narrator chooses to live life alone so that
doesn't hurt anyone.

How will the visuals relate to the song?

My visuals will relate to the song as it focuses on the feeling of loneliness and finding
comfort in other things, i will be showing this by only focusing on single characters at any
time i will aim for them to be the only one in shot. they will have a perceptible air of
sadness and solitary around them. i will colour correct my footage in order to bring out
urban features like rust and the orange of bricks.
