and planned cooperatively.

Objective: Students will be able

to identify stages of the water
cycle (evaporation,
condensation, precipitation,
collection).
Students will be able to
recognize and articulate that
the sun drives the water cycle.

Ms. Drum has planned a

quiz for students the next
day to assess the retention
of the vocabulary. Both
objectives are addressed on
the quiz.

As a review, Ms. Drum had students

share their foldables on the water cycle
from the day before. Then she
reviewed hand motions for the water
cycle. Students who were present the
day before glued their foldables into
content notebooks. She introduced and
assigned parts for the readers theater,
telling students their part number while
she handed each a paper. She told
them, "Highlight the whole line for your
part." Class was split in half and
students rehearsed with their groups.
There was time for one group to
perform; the other group was told they
would perform the next day.

Ms. Drum thought that the lesson

went well, especially the review of
the vocabulary. She agreed that she
should have pre-highlighted parts for
students to save time. She likes
readers theater as an instructional
tool because it reinforces both
reading and the science content.

Ms. Drum is always professional and

willing to cooperate with Waterman
teachers. She attended two school
events at night (literacy night on
4/21/16 and the HCPS choral
festival on 4/26/16) which shows a
willingness to build relationships with
students and their families.

SuggestionsforContinuingProfessionalDevelopment:AreasofStrengthandAreasforGrowth
Areas of Strength: Ms. Drum reviewed the vocabulary at the start of class. She also called students' attention to the sun as a speaking
part in the script and reinforced the idea that it is an important part of the water cycle. Students enjoyed the readers theater and it's a
good way to work on their reading fluency while rehearsing the content vocabulary.
Areas of Growth:There was a little confusion about the parts and having to repeat who had which part, which used up instructional time. I
would pre-highlight all the parts before distributing them to save valuable instructional time. I would also suggest using two or three
different scripts about the water cycle next time because it would make it more interesting for the kids to see a different version and
compare/contrast the different versions.
