Whyshouldyoucareaboutwomen'srights?EverydayintheUnitedStateswomenare
beingshamedfortheirbodyimage,stereotyped,harassedandobjectifiedinthemediaalongwith
inreallife.Womenarelosingrightstotheirownbodiesbyhavingtherightofabortiontaken
awayfromthemorbeinghumiliatedfordoingit.Womenarealsobeingpaidlessthanmen
becausetheytendtostartfamiliesordontworkashard.Womenarebeingtargetedfor
simplybeingwomen.Theyarefacingmentalandphysicalissuesthatmostornomenhaveto
dealwithonadailybasis.
OneofthemainissuesthatwomenandgirlsfaceintheU.S.todayissocialsexism.Our
campaignisfightingagainstthis,weareforwomen'srights.Wecareabouttheissuebecausewe
wanteverywomentobecomfortableintheirworkplace,walkingdownthestreet,ontheir
computer,inhospitals/clinics,andalloverAmerica.Ourcampaignisfightingtostopthemedia
fromobjectifyingwomen.Wewanttostoptheworldfrommakingwomenseemorfeellike
nothingmorethanatreatthatanyonecantakeadvantageofastheyplease.Itisunderstoodthat
therearevalidpointsmadebycompaniesusingwomentosellproducts,orfromthepeople
objectifyingwomenonsocialmedia.Buttherearepointsthatareevenmorevalidthantheones
thattheyaremakingthatcanresolvetheissueofsocialsexismoverall.Youshouldcareabout

womensrightsbecausewomenarebeingharassed,tormented,objectified,andthreatened
throughthemediaalongwithinreallife,anditisnotokay.Itneedstobechanged.
AnotherissuethatwomenfacealloverAmericaisunequalpay.Womenallover
Americaarebeingpaidlessforthesamejobsthatmenhave.Theyarebeingrobbedoftheirown
wellearnedmoney.Itisimportanttoprovethatwomendeservetobepaidasmuchasmen.Our
campaignrejectstheoutrageousinequalityofunequalpay.Wecareaboutwomensrightsand
believethatyoushouldtoobecausewomendeservetobetreatedthesameasmen.Many
opinionsarebroughtupfromthepeopleopposedtoequalpay,suchaswomendontworkas
hard,ortendtostartfamiliesanditdistractsthemfromtheirjobs.Butoverallwomendothe
sameworkandtheydoitwiththesameeffortanddrive,soitisonlyrightthattheygetpaidthe
sameamount.Youshouldcareaboutwomensrightstoequalpaybecauseitisonlylogicaland
fairforeveryonetobepaidthesame.Itwon'teffectyourworldinabadway,butitwillaffect
womeninagoodway.
Thelastbigissuewewanttoaddressisawomensrighttohaveanabortionwhetherits
legalandwhyitshouldbe.WomenallovertheU.S.arebecomingpregnantbecauseofrape,ata
youngage,orwhentheyarejustnotreadyemotionallyorforhealthissues.Infact,over500,000
Americanteenagersfromtheageof1519arebecomingpregnant1.Ifthesewomengivebirth,
theirchildismostlikelygoingtogrowupandhaveabadlife,yetitiseitherillegalorshamedon
togetanabortion.Weunderstandthatsomepeopleseeitasabadthingormurderformany
reasons,somebeingreligiousorjustpersonalopinions,butinthelongrunitwilldobetterfor

everyoneinthesituationthanworse.Youshouldcareaboutawoman'srighttohaveanabortion
becauseitisthechoiceforawomanandherdoctortomake,notanyoneelse's.
Youshouldcareaboutwomensrightsbecauseyoushouldcareabouteveryonehaving
thechancetobethebesttheycanbebybeingtreatedfairlyandequally.Itwillnotaffectanyone
poorlyifeveryoneisjustsimplytreatedthesame.Womendeservetohavethesamechancesas
everyoneelse,thereisnoreasonbigenoughtorulethatout.Itshouldbecommonsensethat
womenareequaltomen,sowhynotmakeitthatway?
Onemainissuewearefightingforisawomansrighttoabortion.Abortionisahighly
contentioustopicwithintheUnitedStateswhichisdividedbetweenprolifeandprochoice
supporters.Manywomenbelievethatyoushouldhavetherighttochoosehowyoutakecareof
yourbodyandifyouchoosetocontinuewithapregnancy.However,abortionisnotaccessible
everywhereinAmerica.Whenwomendonthaveaccesstoabortions,manytimesitleadsto
thempanickingbecausetheycantsupportachildorit'snotrightforthemtostartafamily.That
wouldthenleadtothemtryingtogivethemselvesanabortion,whichisveryunsafe.Itcould
leadintothembleedingoutandnotonlywouldthefetusbegone,butthewomanaswell.
In
1972,theyearbeforeabortionwasfederallylegalized,39womendiedasaresultofknown
illegalabortionsinAmerica,nowitsmuchmore.2
Also,somewomenneedtohaveanabortionbecausegivingbirthputsthematriskand
couldkillthemorseriouslyinjurethem.Awomancouldalsoberapedandnotwanttobe
remindedofiteverytimetheylookattheirownchild.

Outofthetwosidesoftheargument,prochoiceisthesideoftheargumentwhere
womenarefreetomakeadecisionabouttheirownbodies,anditisthesideoftheargumentthat
weagreewith.Eventhoughprochoicesupportersbelieveitisagoodthing,thatdoesntmean
thattheybelievethatitsahappything.Nowomanwakesupthemorningoftheirabortionandis
happyaboutit.Eventhoughitisanamazingoptionthatwomenneedtohaveavailableforthem,
gettingtothatpointisveryhardforwomentodoandnoonewantstoexperienceit,butthings
dohappen.Sowhenpeopleontheopposingsideoftheargumentsaythatwomendontcare
abouttheirunbornchildandthatitseasyforthemtokillit,thatissimplyuntrue.Every
womenhasdifferentfeelingsafterabortions,beforeisalwaysastruggle,butafterForsome
women,havinganabortioncanbeasignificantlifeevent...otherwomenhaveaneasiertimeafter
abortion.3
Also,ifawomanoryounggirlisraped,shecouldgetpregnant.Ifsheispregnantshe
shouldbeabletomakethechoicegettinganabortionornotsoshehastheoptionofnothaving
toberemindedofherrapewhenshelooksatherbaby.Infact,293,066women(12andolder)are
rapedeveryyearintheU.S..4Alotofthosewomenbecomepregnantbecauseofrapeandsome
ofthosewomenareforcedtohavethebabybecauseofprolifebeliefs.Anotherwaytolookatit
ishealthconcerns,themomorthebabycouldbeharmedbecauseofbirth.Itmaynotbehealthy
forthewomantobepregnantsoshemayneedanabortion....EachyearintheU.S.,about700
womendieofpregnancyrelatedcomplicationsand52,000experienceemergenciessuchasacute
renalfailure,shock,respiratorydistress,aneurysmsandheartsurgery.Anadditional34,000

vasectomy.Sowhyisawomenbeingshamedfornothavingachild?Americansalsoneedto
understandthatabortionsareperformedequallyforthebenefitofthechildandthemother.
HalfofpregnanciesintheU.S.areunintended4in10areaborted6.Since1980the
numberofabortionshaveslowlydecreased,butstillthereare1.21millionabortionseachyear,
includinghomeabortions7.SinceJanuary22ndwhen40outofthe50stateslegalizedabortion,
55,772,015abortionshavebeenperformedforwomenupontheirrequest.8Differentstatesalso
havedifferentlawsaboutabortion.9
Theothersideoftheabortionargumentarecalledtheprolifesupporters,theyfeellike
youshouldnothaveachoiceifyouarepregnanttogetanabortionthatyoushouldhavethe
babynomatterwhatthecircumstancesarebecauseifyoudont,youwouldbekillingsomeone.
Weunderstandhowtheyconsideritasmurder,itistechnicallytakingawayapotentiallife.We

weknowthatthereareotheroptionsandtheyaregoodonesforsomepeople,butnotall.For
exampleadoptionisagreatchoiceforsomewomenwhoareabletogivetheirchildtoafamily
whotheyknowwillloveandcareforthem.Butsomewomencanteventhinkoftheideaof
havingtheirchildinanotherfamily'sarms,sowhyshouldthosewomenhavetodealwiththat
everydayoftheirlives?FromOct.1,2011toSept.30,2012,PlannedParenthoodperformed
327,166abortionsand2,197adoptionreferrals,whichequals1adoptionforevery149abortions.

Thisjustshowsthateventhoughmanywomenwanttogivetheirkidsupforadoption,even

morewanttoabort,sowhywouldyoutakethatrightawayfromthem?

Anotherwaythatprolife
supportersargueisasubstituteforabortionisabstinence.Sure,itistruethatmanywomeninthe
U.S.aredevotedandwillingtopracticeit,butagain,manywomencantordontpleaseto
practiceit,sowhyshouldtheybeexpectedtoo?
ManydifferentpeopleallovertheU.S.havetheirownopinionsonabortionbutwe
believethateverywomengetstochoosewhattheypersonallywant.Somepeopledisagreewith
thestatementthatwestandforinourcampaignandthatleavesustoaskthemwhyisanyone
otherthanthesinglewomanherselfdecidingwhatshecanandcantdowithherownbody?
Whyshouldtheyhaveanopinion?Womendeservetherighttotheirownbody.

Anotherissuewearefightingforinourwomansrightscampaignisequalpay.Sexism
andunequalpayarenormalitiesinmoderndayworkplace.Oursocietyisslowlytryingtomake
changestothesystemtoeradicatethesemindsetsandrealities.Thebiggestproblemthatstops
changearethepeoplewhoareuneducatedaboutthewagegapandtheproblemsitcreates.
Unequalpaynotonlywelcomessexismintheworkplacebutalsoaffectsthelivesofwomen
whenitcomestolivingwages.Theamountofmoneywomenarelosingeachyearalongwiththe
insecuritiesitcreatesisdetrimentaltooursociety.
Thewagegaphasbeenaroundfortoolongandisridiculoushowunfairitistothe
workingwomenofAmerica.Womenonaveragemake79centsofawhitemansdollarasof
2014,thisrisingfrom59centsin1974.11Thestatisticschangeineverystateandevenfor
differentethnicities,theclosestAmericahasgottentoequalpayisintheDistrictofColumbia
wherewomenaremaking90centsofawhiteman'sdollar.12WhileinLouisianawomenare
making65centsofawhiteman'sdollar.13Butwhenitcomestoraceitsanotherstory,Latina
womenmake54%ofawhitemanssalaryandAfricanAmericanwomenmake63%.14 Howthis
isfairisamystery,althoughsomemayarguethatwomentendtofindthemselvesinlower
payingjobsoraremorelikelytotaketimeoffofworkandstartafamily.Thestereotypical
situationswherewomenaremorelikelytostartafamilyisridiculous.Meneasilytaketimeoff
ofworkandbewithfamilyaswell.Thestereotypeshouldnotaffectthepaywomenget.

butarestillbeingpaidlessthanmalesintheexactsameposition.Weneedtofightforequalityin
paytoendthesexiststateofmindthatmanyhavethat'screatinginequalitythroughoutAmerica.
Themostpopularcounterargumentisthatwomenarenotgoingintojobsthathavea
higherpay.Theyarguethatwomengothroughschoolforlesslucrativejobslikepersonalcare
orartswhichtheywouldsayaremorefinanciallyuncertain,whilementendtodominate
engineeringandhigherpayingfields.Theyalsosaythatwomenaremorelikelytotaketime
fromworktostartafamilyandthatwomenwouldtradesalaryforflexibilitytoleaveworkfor
personalreasons,whilemenputinmorehoursoftheday.
Thesestatementsareabsolutelyuntrueandsexist.Andinthiscasedoesnotapplytothe
problemathand.Itsproventhateducationdoesnotsolvethewagegap17andtheassumption
thatmostwomengointolesslucrativeprofessionsisjustsexistthinking,bothmenandwomen
gointomanyofthesamejobs.Inthedataonequalpayitalsocomparesthegapsinpayinthe
individualjobs,showingthatmenarestillmakingmorethanwomeneveninlowerpayingjobs
throughoutAmerica.18 Secondlytheargumentthatwomenaremostlikelytotaketimeoffof
workforfamilyorpersonalreasonsisunrealistic,bylimitingthistoonlywomenisridiculous.

Genderroles
arebasedon
norms
orstandardscreatedbysociety.IntheU.S.,
masculinerolesareusuallyassociatedwithstrength,aggression,anddominance.Whilefeminine
rolesareassociatedwithpassivity,nurturing,andsubordination.Onepartofourcampaignis
primarilyfocusedonfightingagainstsexualobjectificationandobjectificationoccurringinthe
sexualrealm.Sexismoriginatesfromtraditionalviewsfromourancestors.19Weneedtobreak
theseviewbynotavoidingthem!Therearemanydifferentaspectsofsexism,butourmainfocus
isobjectifyingwomenonmedia.Peopletodayarenotawareofwhattheywerenaturallyborn
withthatmakesthembeautiful.Thisisbecausetheyaresofocusedonwhatpeoplearefeeding
themonsocialmediaandintherealworld,orwhatstaughttobetrendy.Forexamplea
womanwhochoosestokeepalloftheirnaturalhairisconsideredugly,lazy,masculine,ora
hippie.
Somepeoplethinkthatwomendeservetobeobjectifiedonthemediaandinreallife.
Theybelievethisbecausetheythinkbywomenwearingrevealingclothes,makeup,etc.,that
theyareaskingforit.Theyarguethatfeministsareoverreactingwhentheysaythatwomenare
beingobjectifiedorexposedtosexism.Peoplewhoarefortheopposingargumentsaythatthere
isnosuchthingassexismandthatwomenareblowingeverythingoutofproportion.Theyargue
thatfeministsblameallmenforalloftheirissues,thatfeministssaythatwomenaresuperiorto

menandthattheytakeittoanewlevelandthatitiswomensfaultforoverreacting.Even
thoughsomefeministsdotakethestandofbeingsuperiortomen,thatisnotwhatourcampaign
isabout.Wearefightingforequality,andsayingthatwomenarebetterthanmenisthesame
thingassayingthatmenaresuperiortowomen,andthatiswhatwearefightingagainst.Also,

blatantlysexist.Itisjustanotherexcuseformentotakeadvantageofwomen.Thelastmain
standtheopposingargumenttakesagainstsexismisthatwomenareoverreacting.Thatstatement
isfarfromfactbecausewhyelsewouldeatingdisordershavegrown400%since1970?20And

Youngwomenandmenusesocialmediaasawayofdevelopingasexualidentityand
shapetopeerrelationships.Themediaistellingusourvalueisbasedoffouroutsideappearance.
Ourgenerationissousedtoseeingsomeoneandimmediatelyknowingwhichfeelingyouhave
towardsthepersonjustbythewaytheylook.Weneedtospreadthewordthatbeautyismore
thanskindeep.Awomensmentalperceptionofwhatsheshouldlooklikecanbecomedistorted,
leadingthemtoengageinriskybehaviorswhentheyfeeltheydontmeasureuptothe
impossiblegoalsetinfrontofthem.Studiesprovethatmediahasanegativeimpactonself
imageandesteem.22TVshows,movies,magazines,andtheinternetallbombardteenswith
imagesaboutwhattheirbodiesshouldlooklike.Itputspressureonthemtolooklikethemodels
whostarvethemselvesorhaveunhealthyeatingpatterns.Itcausestheaverageteentocreate

Whyshouldyoucareaboutwomensrights?Becausewomeneverydayaretreated
unequallyfornoreasonotherthanthegenderthattheywereborninto.Theyrepresentedwith
expectationsforhowtheyshouldact,think,dress,andbe.Theygetpaidunequallyforthesame
workasmen,especiallyiftheyrenotwhite.Theyretoldbylawsaboutwhattheycandowith
theirbodieshowtheyshouldlookandwhethertheycanchoosetohaveachildornot.Inequality
hasexistedforfartoolong,andthefactthatitstillexistsisdisgustingandfranklyoutdatedin
todayssociety.
Awomanwhobecomespregnantbecauseofrapeorwhensheisnotreadyshouldnotbe
forcedtohavechildren.Everywomandeservestobepaidthesameaseveryman.Andno
womandeservestobetreatedasifsheisnomorethananobject.Wearefightingforthelegality
andaccessibilityofabortion,equalityinamansandwomanspaycheck,andforsocialsexism
tobeatopicofthepast.Weareheretotellyoutootonotbeblindedbythemediaandyour
