heat run test 2.2).
1.11 Impedance test of A 1 phase variable voltage is applied to the rotor field winding IEC 34/ IS 4722
rotor and current is measured. Readings are recorded at 25%,
50%, 75% and 100% of the rated field voltage.
1.12 Momentary overload The generator is run at rated speed with its stator terminals IEC 34/ IS 4722
test (shall be done shorted. Generator is excited to 150% of the rated current.
during S.C. heat run The condition is passed for 30 seconds.

TYPE TEST
2.1 Mechanical heat run The generator is run at rated speed. In this condition at equal IEC 34/ IS 4722/
test intervals the power input to prime mover, generator RTD, IS 7132
BTD, ATD, ambient and body temperature are recorded till
thermal equilibrium is reached. Then machine is stopped and
hot resistance of all windings is measured.
2.2 Open circuit heat run The generator is run at rated speed and voltage. In this IEC 34/ IS 4722/
test condition at equal intervals the power input to prime mover, IS 7132
generator voltage, exciter voltage and current, generator
RTD, BTD, ATD, ambient and body temperature are recorded
till thermal equilibrium is reached. Then machine is stopped
and hot resistance of all windings is measured.

2.3 Short circuit heat run The generator terminal is shorted and run at rated speed and IEC 34/ IS 4722/
test rated current. In this condition at equal intervals the power IS 7132
input to prime mover, generator current, exciter voltage and
current, generator RTD, BTD, ATD, ambient and body
temperature are recorded till thermal stability is reached.
Then machine is stopped and hot resistance of all windings is
measured.
From the above heat run test readings the temperature
rise of the core and windings is calculated.
2.4 Efficiency test by The prime mover dc motor power input is measured at IEC 34/ IS 4722
summation of losses Gen. Running at rated speed at zero excitation.
method Gen. Running at rated speed and rated voltage in
O.C. condition.
Gen. Running at rated speed and rated current in
