1.The tasks that the teacher is confronted with in the language classroom.
-

selecting learning activities

preparing students for new learning
presenting learning activities
asking questions
conducting drills
checking students understanding
providing opportunities for practice of new items
monitoring students learning
giving feedback on student learning
reviewing and reteaching when necessary
2.The source of teachers belief systems and their characteristic:

a) Their own experience as language learners all teachers were once students, and their beliefs about teaching
are often a reflection of how they themselves were taught.
b) Experience of what works best for many teachers experience is the primary source of beliefs about teaching. A
teacher may have found that some teaching strategies work well and some do not.
c) Established practice within a school, an institution, or a school district, certain teaching styles and practices
may be preferred.
d) Personality factors some teachers have a personal preference for a particular teaching pattern, arrangement, or
activity because it matches their personality.
e) Educationally based or research-based principles teachers may draw on their understanding of a learning
principle in psychology, second language acquisition, or education and try to apply it in the classroom.
f) Principles derived from an approach or method teachers may believe in the effectiveness of a particular
approach or method of teaching and consistently try to implement it in the classroom.
3.Give examples of teachers beliefs about the foreign language and be able to explain how they can influence
teachers classroom practices.
Nowadays English is the language which is used and taught almost all over the world as far as different situations are
concerned, like: politic, business, sport contacts, daily exchange communication or even internet. What is more, many
English words are common in other languages.
In my opinion, English is more difficult to learn. Especially vocabulary. There are so many idioms, phrases,
collocations and connotation that it is very difficult for foreign learners to know all of them. It is very difficult for
foreign learner, who was brought up without using English to gain such pronunciation as native speaker has, because
English words are not pronounced as they are written.
I think that American English should be taught because it is: more spread, simplified and easier to learn especially
with regard to stress and intonation.
Speaking English with native-like pronunciation depends on what language is used for, what kind of function it has.
As far as daily communication is concerned it is not important, but in politics or among some personages bad
pronunciation can be dubious. Interlocutor may be regarded as a weak-educated and non-credible partner.
English sounds to me fluently, melodious, but a little bit gibberish .
I think my learners regard English as easy language which sounds cool especially in songs. Later on, it appears as
language difficult with many really hard aspects to learn.
Every language has its characteristics. As I earlier said, idioms and phrases make English special, and with regards to
strategy competence there are many ways to describe given thing, topic or thoughts.

4.What are teachers beliefs about learning related to? What can happen if these beliefs differ from those held
by learners?
Teachers beliefs about learning may be based on their training, their teaching experience, or may go back to their
own experience as language learners.
Learning is a gaining the ability to communicate effectively and interactively. To be able to communicate with
interlocutor in the way he understands us. Learning language consists of learning the structural rules, vocabulary
through such activities as memorization, reading and writing.
The best way to learn English is to go abroad to the country where English is an official language. To be forced to use
English (not a first language) to communicate. Apart from that there are many good ways such as: watching American
films, reading original American press and books, to study English. Provide access to language data through such
activities as active listening, role play and interaction with native speakers.
Hard-working students do best in my class, because learning language require a lot of time and eagerness. Also
courage students, who are not afraid of giving opinions and sharing with their knowledge. Those who were
motivated, active and spoke out, those who were not afraid of making mistakes and those who could work
individually without the teachers help.
As far as vocabulary is concerned I encourage them to learn not single words but phrases, idioms, synonyms,
collocations, connotations or even whole sentences with a given word. Good ways to learn language are
conversations and listening to native speakers, learning structures and speak as much as possible (not only written L.)
I expect my students to be active, eager to speak and sharing with opinions, good relations with other students and
lecturer.
The consequences of not doing so are likely to be misunderstanding and mistrust on the part of both teachers and
learners.
5.What aspects of language instruction do teachers beliefs about teaching influence? What three major
approaches can be identified in this respect?
My role as a teacher is to provide useful learning experiences and model of correct language use, answer learners
questions and correct learners errors, pass on knowledge and skills to the pupil.
I would try to implement active and practical methods, which makes student active participation and analyze some
problems and take particular decisions. According to such work there are emotions which make them easier to
remember. The best teaching resource is simply teachers knowledge and experience. Then I would list such factors
as: books, films, cassettes, newspapers, contact with native speaker, etc.
Effective teaching means to achieve by learners aims provided by teacher.
There should be democratic management. It means that not only teacher is the one who make decisions but learners
also. Constructive dialogue means that learners share with their problems, speak ones mind and pass on own ideas.
The qualities of a good teacher are: his knowledge and experience, communicativeness, friendliness to the learners,
demanding and reliability.
Three major approaches:
1. A skills-based approach focuses on the discrete skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
2. A rule-based approach emphasizes the importance of grammatical rules and a conscious understanding of
the language system.
3. A function-based approach focuses on interactive communication and cooperative learning, and the ability
to function in real social situations.

6.Explain the importance of teachers beliefs concerning the program and the curriculum.
Every teacher should know program and curriculum and try to choose the one appropriate to the level of the class
and own predispositions.
The most important elements in an effective language program are: aims, the way of achieving aims (method and
forms) and content of teaching.
Textbook should be adequate to the level and age of learners. Role of teaching materials is to make easier to learn
during the absence of teacher, to be able to learn by themselves in home, to widen and strengthen the language.
Objectives are very important because there is motivation to learn.
What I will teach depends on what kind of objectives will I choose.
Assessment should be adequate to progresses of learner and inform about the level of knowledge and abilities. But
assessing is also stressful for both: students and teachers.
7.Teachers beliefs about language teaching as a profession.
English teaching require special skills and training. It is hard profession, because satisfaction depends on work
effects, which are not visible at once. English teacher has to face many difficulties and obstacles (lack of teaching
aids, lazy students).
In my opinion in spite of teaching grammar there should be more conversations, language structures and present
literature.
As far as teachers training is concerned, I think that they should be able to cope with different students: talented,
lazy, disciplined and anxious. Teacher has to know different methods and ways of teaching and adjust them towards
students.
Activities which best support teaching are language games, because students learn with pleasure. These games are
connected with emotions which simplify learning. In this method there are more senses included than just only sight
and hearing (touch, smell, taste). In teaching we can use computers, internet, television and tape recorders. It is
available in my school.
The most rewarding aspect of teaching for me would be the situation where my students express their feelings by
using proper language structures.
Language learners should evaluate (ocenia) throughout their careers. The best way to evaluate is to compare own
work effects with others by organizing language competitions, abroad trips and students contacts with foreigners.
8.What are the strengths and weaknesses of native and non-native teachers.
Native teacher knows English very well, but has problems to communicate with Poles. It is more difficult for him to
explain for example some grammar problems, idioms etc. Foreigner doesnt know polish students and educational
system.
Non-native teacher knows language worse than native teacher. He tends to pronounce English words using more
polish phonetic. In the event of having problems he is able to explain it in polish. He knows polish students and
educational system.
