#1 on my list of things I wish to learn from this course: More concrete knowledge about
the options of social services for older adults.
Synopsis:
According to the Oxford Dictionary, social services are: government services provided
for the benefit of the community, such as education, medical care, and housing (aiming to
promote the welfare of others).
The reasons I included this on my list of things to learn was because I wanted to
become confident in the resources and services available, at least at the broadest level. For me,
this means knowing generally what type of things exist, and then how to go about finding these
resources. I know it is impossible to know about every single thing that is out there, but being
aware and constantly reaching out to more education can help make it easier to link up the right
service and resource to each specific and unique situation.
Peer Reviewed Article from WSU library database:
Summary: Person-centered care (PCC) has emerged as an evidence-based solution that
involves enlisting patients as partners in treatment planning.
As we know from our assignment last week, the State of Michigan mentions Personcentered care multiple times in their Plan on Aging.
This article follows a phone-based research study to look inside of agencies that provide
services and care to older adults and how they utilize, work towards, or work against Personcentered Care with their consumers (the older adults). Inconsistent reports on the reasoning,
definition, and utilization of Person-centered care are also reported.

implementation of PersonCentered care for older adults in CommunityBased medical
and social service settings: You only get things done when working in concert with
clients. Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, 64(1), e8-e14.
