INSTANTANEOUS OVERCURRENT RELAY
Type CAGI7
The type CAGI7 roley (triole pole CAGS7) Is 2 high sot
instantaneous overcurrent unit with low teansient over
each and a high dap oftpick up ratio.
Because of ae finitely variable sting and immunity 10
otfget warsiants, this relay has special advantages for
protection of transormer feeders and feeders conn
to high MYA sources.
Whore lines ae fod from high MYA sources, the impedance
ofthe line eauses a sharp reduction in faut current asthe
distance batwoon the fault and the source increases,
Conventional instantaneous ovorcurent protection gives
good discrimination and economy on these fines, bul
olay ect to detect symmarical faults st the far end will
‘veneach and cause tipping for offst foulte which are
‘ouside the protected zone: the oveteurtent setting must
thetefora be ralzod in proportion to the overreach of the
Felay, with consoquent loss of coverage for symmetrical
faults at the far end of the tne
The CAGTT can be accurataly sotto cover all fede faults
ip to the transiormer sseondary bushings, end ensures
ccnect discrimination at high speed usder maximum
offset fault conditions.
OPERATION
‘The relay consists of an attracted armature unit, 2 setting
potentiometer, an aunilimy translormer and associated
‘components.
The attracted armature unit has three windings, one of
hich is tuned te the supay frequency by ashunt capacitor,
The indvetance of the winding varies with the pasion
‘of the aemature, and by correct choice of tuning eapscitar
the pull characteristic is mage to follow the cacteaint
choractristic closely ans give on improved drap ott/pice
[Because the inital armature pulls derived from a tuned
ceroult, the relay & insensitive Yo ce. and will respond
‘only 19 the a.c. component of an offeot waveform.
CHARACTERISTICS
Current settinge are continuously adjustable borween
200%-800%, 500%-2000% or 1000%~4000% of the
