Debate
The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot
be changed without changing our thinking, once said by Albert Einstein.
Without balance how can you operate at your highest potential? In 1950s
one man, Martin Luther King Jr., stood up to the whites and tried to find
balance for his people. Another example is the Romans standing up against
Julius Caesars all powerful government. To have balance in an asymmetric
society, a person or people must challenge society to create harmony.
In Rome one man, Brutus, challenged society by killing the ruler Julius
Caesar by stabbing him to death. After Brutus stabbed Caesar to death he
said to his peers Had you rather Caesar were living, and die all slaves, than
that Caesar were dead, to live all freemen (3.2.17). What Brutus is try to
say is would you rather have Caesar lives and you have little control of your
freedom or Caesar dies and you have almost full control over your freedom.
With Caesar becoming too powerful, society isnt as balanced as I should be.
So Brutus challenged society by killing the thing that was making society
unbalanced. With him doing this he gave freedom to his peer. Yes, Brutus
did commit manslaughter, but it was really for the greater good. Without his
actions some of his peers would not be in control of their freedom.
In the late 1950s a man challenged society and forever changed the
lives of many men and women. His name was Michael Luther King, Jr., most
commonly known as Martin Luther King, Jr or MLK. He was a Christian pastor

in Alabama and also a rights leader. He led protests to challenge society to

make his community and surrounding communities equal. So no man is
treated different from the man next to them, no matter their race. One of
Martin Luther King, Jr most important part of the civil rights movement is
the march on Washington. It was one of the largest political rallies for civil
right and one of his most memorable and recognized speeches, the I Have
a Dream speech. Yes, MLKs movement for civil rights might have gotten
people killed or got some people thrown in jail, but there must be sacrifices
to get to the common good.
In history it shows that you need to find balance by challenging
society to get a balance, so you can have your highest potential to succeed.
This has happened all throughout time, from BC when Caesar ruled to when
MLK thrived in the 1900s. To challenge society all you need to stand up, for
example it can be as nonviolent as MLK's speech for black right. To when
Brutus killing Caesar, when society is challenged, it is forced to change.
When Caesar got killed the slaves in Rome got freed and shortly after MLK
gave his speech law and amendments passed to outlaw segregation. This
shows that challenging society will give results.
