Assignment 1: Information Literacy

PART 1:
1. Keywords used mobile technology in education
2. The database I used for this search was Proquest.
3. I used Proquest for both articles because Proquest provides a good
range of articles on a variety of subjects. Proquest also provides good,
quality articles that hold a lot of information.
O'Connor, Siobhan, and Tom Andrews. "Mobile Technology and its use in
Clinical Nursing Education: A Literature Review." Journal of Nursing
Education 54.3 (2015): 137-44. ProQuest. Web. 7 June 2016.
Baran, Evrim. "A Review of Research on Mobile Learning in Teacher
Education." Journal of Educational Technology & Society 17.4 (2014):
17-32. ProQuest. Web. 7 June 2016.

Scholarly Article 2:

PART 2:
1. In the article, Varsity Tutors Releases Mobile Tutoring App by
Richard Chang, Varsity Tutors launched a mobile app that provides
one-on-one tutoring with live instruction to students who need it.
The app provides help to more than 20,000 students and offers help
with over 150 subjects. Varsity tutors are currently working on
making around 150,000 practice problems for free to really help
those who need it. The app is free, but users will have to pay for the
live tutors time, which on average costs about $55.00 per hour.

Chang, Richard. "Varsity Tutors Releases Tutoring App." THE Journal. Public
Sector Media Group, 24 May 2016. Web. 7 June 2016.
PART 3:
1. Keywords used mobile technologies in educations
Vali, Raj. "Five Ways Mobile Technology Is Transforming Education."
TechRadar. Tech Radar, 28 Jan. 2015. Web. 07 June 2016.
2. The two search engines I used were Bing and Google.

BING
Articles seem to have a more
recent date
Articles are more in depth
Had more results using more
keywords (12,300,000)

GOOGLE
Most recent articles have a
later date
Articles had a broad span of
topic
Had less results and didnt use
many keywords (11,700,000)

4. I normally dont use Bing, but I found that I got better, more in
depth articles about mobile technology in education. I also found that
the articles on Bing were more of a news articles whereas in Google, I
got random articles that may have just had the keywords in the title. I
also found that Google surprisingly took longer to download the
results; however this couldve been a malfunction in my computer
rather than a malfunction in Googles software.
PART 4:

1. The article I found in part 2 was written May 24th of 2016. The article
has not been updated since then.
2. The article does relate to my topic of mobile technology in education
since the article s about providing a face time tutor call wherever a
student might need it.
3. The author of this article is Richard Chang. Richard Chang is the editor
of THE Journal website, which gives him a little bit of credibility,
however there is nothing on if he does anything else in the company or
not.
4. I find this article very accurate. I searched for the app on my phone
and found it. I did not test it out due to the cost of what the tutors
charge per hour (approximately $55.00/ hour) it seemed like an app
that is fairly used by students.
5. I think this article was mostly written to inform students that there is
now something out there that can offer face to face help without
arranging a time to meet, place to meet and finding a tutor to meet. If
its 2:00 A.M and you need help in a subject, you can simply go into
this app and someone will be there to help you with the subject youre
struggling on. I dont think the material was bias or anything like that
since the company genuinely wants to help students who need it.
PART 5:
When it came to finding the articles, I had a harder time finding the
internet one than the database one. Some databases are meant to find
specific articles on a certain subject, like science, and some databases are

meant for a broader range of subjects. I think the database article was so
easy to find because I could really narrow my search results to exactly what I
wanted. The internet article was harder to find because I had to have a
current one, and I couldnt narrow my search results like I did with the
database.
It took me more time to find the internet article than it did the
database article. I found the database article in about 15 minutes, I was
being picky on what article I wanted to use, but it took me over half an hour
to find an internet article with any relevance as to what I wanted. It was even
harder finding an internet article that had a date within the past month that
was about mobile technology in education.
Since the database article had to be a scholarly article, I think that one
has more credibility than my internet article does. My internet article was
written by an editor of an online journal which was a good thing, but it never
specified if he had any background in that topic. With my database article, I
trusted it a little more since not anyone could publish an article on a
database.
