Energetic self-care
By Michele Mayama

Most people in the modern age have been educated to understand the functioning of the human body. Biology
and medicine focus on understanding physical systems and/or how to fix them if they break down through injury
or disease. However, if we understand ourselves to be more than what we can see with our eyes, we begin to
discover the realm of emotion, mind, and energy. Human beings are capable of feeling a wide range of emotions,
from despair and rage to joy and awe, and everything in between. There are branches of science that are
beginning to study and document how emotions are intimately connected to the way our bodys cells respond and
function. Candace Pert is a scientist who made the laboratory discovery of how emotions and health are linked at
the molecular level. Her book on the topic, Molecules of Emotion, (see resource list at the end of this article) is an
easy to read synopsis of this research on how body, mind, and emotion function as interconnected aspects of a
whole body experience.
Because we are part of larger living systems such as families, communities, work environments, etc, not only do
we feel our own emotions, we are sensitive to the emotions of others and can be influenced emotionally.
Advertising and marketing campaigns are completely focused on manipulating people emotionally so they will buy
more stuff! If you have ever been to a live sporting event, you will understand how emotions can be magnified
beyond what one person would feel alone, and how such group emotion can influence people to act out in
uncharacteristic ways. In an average day, our bodies register an emotional response to all of the direct
interactions we have with people, to most of the casual indirect interchanges (i.e. freeways and cashiers), to
influences received through television, radio, newspapers, world events, etc. No wonder we feel so tired at the end
of the day! Most of us have created ways to not feel it all; we rationalize, self-medicate or hyper-stimulate, or stay
focused on endless to do lists. But the body just keeps on registering the impacts and, gradually, the cumulative
effects take their toll on our health and well-being.
Emotions are the realm of personal experience. When something happens to us that affects us emotionally, but
for which we have no explanation, we make one up in our mind and it then locks the experience into a structure of
belief. It lives on as a storyline of our own creation around which we collect other experiences. As we form beliefs
and conclusions about our experience, we create unconscious and conscious response patterns within the
mental field. If you have ever tried to change a mental habit or routine, you are aware of how rigid and tenacious
such response patterning can be! Sometimes, new information will open a new pathway of perception that will
lead to a different understanding and new options and choices. Other times, crisis forces change and a release of
old stored emotions caught in the old storylines.
Our minds are designed to imprint information that comes in through our focused attention, and then file it away
to be used later. If we do not discern what to focus upon and consciously choose what information to allow into
our mind, the mental field can become so cluttered with excess information that does not relate to what we need
to know to live our lives, that they can grow clouded and confused. We dont know our own minds! And as a result,
we can grow mentally fatigued and less able to cope with making decisions or organizing ones life or day. Another
common experience is when others believe they know better than ourselves and try to convince us to listen to
them and take on their conclusions, interpretations, and beliefs as our own. When we allow our mind to be
dominated by another, we begin to feel confused, separated from our own truth and experience, and then can
grow depressed and/or anxious.
Besides our mind, emotions, and physical systems, our bodies are also energetic. The ancient art of acupuncture
has mapped the meridian system of energy flow throughout the human body, and identified seven major chakras
or energy centers that coordinate with and energize all the organ systems. This energetic dimension interweaves
all the other aspects and is also affected by our responses and conclusions to our life events and daily
interactions. This energy system is informed by the individuals soul in relationship with the living body of the Earth
and the more refined frequencies of Light beyond the visible spectrum. Each organ and tissue has an energetic or
etheric double, and within this energetic field is stored the content of unprocessed emotions and beliefs, both
conscious and unconscious, as well as the wisdom and knowing of the soul. Those who are trained to perceive the

subtle energies of the body and/or read auras (the energetic extension of our souls around the body) can see some
of what is stored and reflect it back to a person so it can become more conscious.
Mental and Emotional Clearing
Both the emotional and mental fields can be easily cleared throughout the day so they do not become so overloaded
with external influences that one is exhausted. It is my personal viewpoint that bathrooms are the best place to do
this type of clearing. They are private, designed to wash and flush away what the body is eliminating, and are located
in every building or public area. I suggest that you incorporate some of these practices into your regular visits to the
restroom to stay clear during the day. I also clear every night before I go to sleep so I do not use my dreamtime to
process stuff that isnt mine! Another good place to release is in nature. The Earth gently takes what we release and
recycles the energy so it might be used again for Life. A good releasing breath is to breathe in through the nose and
out through the mouth. The out-breath can be almost like a sigh, which will also help to release tension and facilitate
relaxing.
Combing: A simple way to clear the mind and energy field is to comb through it with your hands. Beginning at the top
of your head, brush downward, imagining that you are picking up and brushing away any clutter or cobwebs. A
person can comb through the field of another person with loving intention. This practice can be a good way to help
children unwind and relax before going to sleep.
Violet Purifying Shower: The color that we call violet is a specific frequency of Light that can purify the emotional
body. Since many of us unconsciously pick up what others may be feeling, projecting, or broadcasting, we can grow
cloudy and tired as a result. Visualize yourself standing beneath a shower of Violet Light with the intention that it
purify and clear you of all emotional content that does not belong to you. You can also see it spinning in a counterclockwise circle around you moving out through the space around you to clear your office or home. It may be helpful
to spin the violet light in hospital rooms between patients to clear any left over emotional content left by those who
are in intensive personal healing processes.
Blue Flame: The color blue that is seen on a gas stove is used to clear the mental field. It is a tone of Truth and
Clarity. We can easily pick up the thoughts of others, and particularly those of strong-willed individuals who want to
convince us of something. If you find yourself feeling mentally battered or fatigued, or if you are growing confused
about what you think or feel about something, visualize a Blue Flame burning its way through your mental field asking
that any thoughts, beliefs, or patterns that do not belong to you please be removed. This is particularly helpful when
one is trying to make a decision and others are giving you their advice or have either spoken or unspoken agendas.
Clear your mind and let what is true for you have more space to empower you to decide and act accordingly.
Golden White: To clear a space in a home or building, a person can stand in the center of the space and begin to
spin colors counterclockwise through the field. Violet clears the emotional and astral fields, blue the mental fields,
and a sparkling Golden White light clears everything else that may have been left behind or imprinted by those using
the space. I use it before beginning every individual session in my office, just to make sure nothing will interfere or
distract us while we are working within the more vulnerable terrain of the unconscious.
Soft Rose Pink Love: Soft pink in the color of Unconditional Love, or the quality of Love that is ever and all present.
After any clearing, it is important to inform the space created with something that will support and assist you to be
more present in your own energy field. Since it is everywhere you are, consciously begin to breath in the Rose Light of
Love. Let it flow to and embrace whatever places within you that may need some extra care, attention, support,
acceptance, love, or unconditional presence. See it fill those spaces and gradually extend out all around you forming a
pink bubble or soft blanket of Love. It will assist you to relax and feel more whole. One can also replace with Grace
(sparkly silver), Beauty (sparkly light turquoise), or Joy (shimmering yellow). Your soul may actually need specific
qualities, and you may spontaneously see or sense different colors being drawn in to serve you.
Filters within the Auric Membrane: There is a membrane that defines the outer edge of your aura. It is like the thin
membrane inside the hard shell of an egg except it is clear. If you are particularly susceptible to others emotions or
mental influences, you might want to weave a filter through the membrane, First, make sure the entire membrane is
free of holes or tears. Visualize an emerald green light surrounding your aura and invite healing. Little white threads
of light will begin to mend or weave through any spaces to close them. Then ask your soul to determine which colors
or frequencies of light would serve you to stay more attuned to your own emotions and consciousness. Often a shade

of violet or purple will assist someone to filter emotions and a shade of blue or gold will filter mental influence. If you
are very sensitive, you might also ask for one of the metals, gold, silver, or platinum, to be added as a filter.
Protection and Shields: Sometimes there is a need to know about energetic protection and shilding Some people
have very poor boundaries and unconsciously try to take energy from others without prior agreement or permission.
They may hook or cord you in one of the primary energy centers so to take your life force for their own use. If you feel
chronically drained and dont know why, clear your field using the Violet Light Shower and then place a Violet Shield
around your energy field. Let it extend out around your auric membrane at least a couple of inches thick, all around,
above and below. Your own vertical connections to Spirit and Earth are strengthened. You may feel a bit emotionally
distant from others within this shield, and yet it may also give you an opportunity to sort out and feel your own
emotions and feelings without getting so much confusing input from others. A Shield of Blue flame will protect you
from being influenced by others mentally, so you keep a clear head. For protection, some people prefer to use a Pure
White Light or call upon the Light of Christ (or the Christos), which is Gold. These frequencies will also work if your
intention is to stay clear and without interference within your own energy field.
If someone is angry and you are the target, clear your field and place a mirror like deflector shield around your auric
membrane. When anger is used as a weapon, it creates holes in the auric shield and enters like a poison arrow. The
effect is to feel weakened, a loss of energy, and stunned or paralyzed and unable to respond to protect oneself.
Physically, the bodys immune system has been hit and if already weakened, can allow bacteria or viruses to get past
its defenses and create an illness. I use obsidian as the mirrored shield, although some prefer mirrors or something
like a Star Trek deflector shield.
The last shield I recommend having in the tool-box is an Elemental Shield. It is formed in partnership with the Earth.
First identify which element, Earth, Air, Fire, or Water, with which you feel most aligned and comfortable. Then ask that
element to form a boundary around you out several feet from your body. Some examples are a hurricane, clouds, a
wall of waterfalls, canyons, trees, or fire. Nothing can penetrate this shield unless you give permission. Ask for one
word or a symbol that you can say to call it into place. It is good to put up when facing an unexpected negative
influence or when in a place with lots of astral influence such as a bar or casino.
Physical Healing
Our bodies are wise in the ways of their own living processes and self-regeneration. They know how to heal, and
everything we need is available to assist us to do that unless the body or psyche is either overwhelmed with trauma or
unable to process experiences. With some basic understanding of what we can do to assist our own healing, our body
can heal itself with greater ease and in less time.
Healing Trauma: If you or someone you know is experiencing trauma of any kind, a warm Golden Rose Light is the
color of choice. It can be used immediately, as in the example of a stubbed toe. First move your hand quickly back and
forth over the injured area moving in the opposite direction of the way the body was impacted. The purpose is to
disrupt the etheric bodys imprinting process. Then hold your hands over the place in the body that is injured and
visualize a warm liquid rose light absorbing like a lotion into the area. Then after a short time, begin to breathe in
through the nose and out through the mouth to release the energy while gently moving the hands down and away
from the body. Sometimes, an injury or trauma can be nearly pain-free and heal quite quickly as a result of not needing
to process the trauma through the body.
The warm liquid Rose Pink can also used for healing emotional trauma and/or old wounds from ones past. Trauma
can be like ice. It freezes and holds within it memories and emotions that need sufficient love and support to thaw and
release. Often old unhealed or unprocessed wounds are still wrapped up inside the body and will show up as pain or
disease when it is time to bring the wound to consciousness and thus restore your nature to greater wholeness.
Physical Etheric Healing: Emerald Green is the color of choice to heal the etheric sheath that surrounds every organ
and tissue in the body. Like an energetic double, if the sheath is not also closed after surgery and any energetic
meridians that have been cut reconnected, the area will not receive the amount of energy needed for healing. If you

have old surgical wounds or injuries that seem slow to heal, visualize a beautiful rich Emerald Green light with tiny little
laser like lights running through it. The little laser lights darn and mend while the green nourishes and feeds the living
cells of the organ or tissues. It may be necessary to add a deep forest green to assist the body to remember its
natural state of wholeness. One can also ask for assistance from Healers in Spirit who can act as etheric surgeons if
necessary.
The body is really a map of consciousness and it is possible to focus attention into specific organs or areas of the
body that are calling your attention through pain or dis-ease. Surround the area with the Rose of Love and ask it what
it is holding for you. Tell your body you are willing to receive the message consciously and work with it. Then stay open
to receiving the information, memory, emotion, or awareness that your body and soul are trying to get to you. It may
come in dreams, upon awaking, or through a thought that just wont go away. Sometimes people stay so busy that
their soul and body cant get their attention until they are lying in bed with a virus or injury. Making space to listen on a
regular basis is good self-care and can assist you to stay in optimal balance.
Replenishment: If you feel tired, run down, or under-nurtured, open to receive a specific quality of Life from the Earth I
call the Nectar of Life. It is the color of honey and is sweet and nourishing like Mothers Milk. Part of the upward
current from the Earth, it opens through the Root Chakra at the base of the spine and up into the body. It nourishes
from the inside out, so it tends to be used first by the organs that need it most. As it replenishes life in the body, it
relaxes the nervous system and nourishes it as well. I like to use the visualization of lying in a warm pool of liquid honey
gold that is in the middle of a beautiful fragrant garden of fruits and flowers. I ask my body to receive and absorb, to
drink long and deep just as an infant would when nursing from the breast of its mother. There is nothing quite like it
for refilling ones cup for life!
Reenergizing Exercises: Also connected to the Life current, the Root chakra can be gently and specifically exercised
to bring chi or life force up into the body. The color is in the range of Earth Red, like the red rock of Sedona or iron. It
can also include a coppery red. Sit in a chair with your buttocks on the edge of the chair and feet firmly planted flat on
the floor. While breathing in and opening to receive, push your feet into the floor with the muscles of your legs and
hips. Hold for 5-10 seconds, then release the breath and relax back into the base of your spine. Breathe gently and
notice the energy moving up your spine and into your chakras.
A standing version is to stand with legs about shoulder width apart and toes slightly turned in. push feet and legs
together while breathing in. Hold several seconds and release.
A more vigorous version of this exercise is to stand with feet about shoulder width apart. Slightly bend your knees and
while breathing in, pull energy up from the Earth with the muscles of your buttocks and legs. Gradually imagine using
your whole body like a heart muscle that is pulling energy up and into the entire body. Then breathe out in a sigh,
relax, and allow the energy to flow up, into, and throughout your body.
If your legs start trembling or you feel light-headed, stop. That is your threshold for chi right now. With practice, you
will be able to take in and utilize more energy for life and you will feel more consistently alive and vital.
