In bodily/Worldly temptation - we have an instance where the action conflicts wi

th the equanimity which the mind is seeking.


The Mind is seeking a more perfect happiness. In time it has to transcend certai
n pleasures in order that it may enjoy a longer and more perfect happiness or pe
ace. They will detract from higher consciousness, from clear thinking.
Man s great adversary in dealing with temptation is rationalization.
It is apt to liken the workings of the mind to a court. Every act is first debat
ed in the mind. Once it is accepted and acted, the second time will require less
deliberation, the third time still less and so proportionately into a formed ha
bit. Every act is weighed, but the mind is lenient in regards to curiosity. It w
ill endanger itself and the body in order to learn and experience novelty. Thus
most harmful habits gain entry into the system.
The trick is never to allow the mind to wander in reverie and imaginations, and
hence become less susceptible to forming new impressions.
When confronted with temptation the greatest argument would be WHY?. RELAX, PRES
ENCE, BREATHE and then when you ask yourself, WHY?, WHAT shall I gain from this
pleasure-hypnosis, you can destroy much of the power of temptation/impression/lo
op. It is hard for a person to give a reason for pleasure outside of just saying
because it s fun. Eventually the mind denies itself the delusion, and finds a warmi
ng satisfaction in the freedom thus enjoyed. In time a general indifference to a
ll fixations of pleasure will be the result of this method.
By developing indifference to temptation, animal nature and by constant remembra
nce of a higher ideal , one tends to develop total indifference to the false and
slowly they melt away completely leaving only the Truth to shine.
Realize that the impression loop is just abusing consciousness, just for some ch
emical reactions to happen. Do not be fooled into being ridden. Just blow it awa
y with laughter and awareness.
By developing understanding and wisdom, indifference to the false, purifying one
s antahkarana,
there is lessening of projection of energy outside,
less susceptibility to the hypnosis of Nature, Less Grasping, clinging a
nd holding on to Prakriti, Lay off prakriti :-)
the conservation and transmutation of energy,
protection from other sources of contamination,
psychological honesty with oneself,
the redirection of desire,
the maintenance of one clear state-of-mind,
freedom from the carnal ego and the illusion of self. AND
To allow one to walk through the jungle of maya in a state of innocence
and Grace.
As taught in the Gurdjieffian system, fear, anger, despair, lust, and identifica
tion are the main forms of energy drainage and negativity that plague us.
Recognizing and challenging absurdity in oneself by being able to laugh at the p
art of oneself that is being ridiculous weakens its hold on us. Insight into the
dynamics of one s susceptibility to such influences reveals the reactive egos bei
ng thus dismantled (usually some form of crystallized defensiveness against the
feelings of guilt and inadequacy) which are being exploited.
Seeing the whole truth of one s condition from a vantage point of compassion allow
s forgiveness to take place, which then allows one s inner division to be healed.

Regard Nature as our friend and live in accordance with natural law, but realize
that the course and intent of Nature does not necessarily lead to a spiritual a
nswer beyond life.
Nature s ultimate purposes in this scheme
But remember that /consciousness/peace of mind/All holy and unholy/ is a gift o
f nature, of prakriti, not of the Absolute. You realize /consciousness/peace of
mind/ when you are causing no ripples in prakriti.
