Born in Manchester, N.H.
Also lived in New York, Ohio, Wisconsin,
Oklahoma
Beginning my 21th year teaching 2nd
grade, my favorite grade!
Married, with two daughters. Amanda
has her Masters in Communication and
Cassie has a degree in Graphic Arts.

Reading Counts
Reading Counts is a computer program that
encourages students to read with comprehension.
They earn points, prizes and awards for passing a
book quiz on a school computer.
Each student has a personal goal of 100 points
with an 80% quiz success rate. The class goal is
4,000 points.
The school celebrates with a Reading Counts
Carnival in May.

Spelling
We will be using two spelling
lists. First are phonics based
spelling words that fit with our
anthology stories. The
emphasis is on the pattern.
Second, there are the 101 most
frequently written words. (see
list)The 101 words are your go
to resource
for
correction.

final test will be taken on Fridays.

Three Types of Writing


Opinion Writing introduces the topic, states an opinion
supported by reasons, uses linking words (because,
and, also, etc.) and provides a concluding statement
Narrative Writing recounts a sequence of events,
including descriptive details, use time order words
(first, second, and last), and provides a sense of
closure.
Informative/explanatory texts recount facts and
provides a concluding statement.

Homework
Homework is sent every Friday. There is a
a suggested daily schedule, but it is flexible.
The most important part is to read twenty
minutes a night and record it on the Reading Log.
Parents are expected to check homework for
completeness and to sign the top agenda sheet.
Students earn Friday Club privilege if they turn
in their completed homework .

Please provide napkins, plates,
cups, and silverware if needed.
The last 15 minutes of the day is
