internationaloilfieldgiantPetrofac.
Petrofachadaverysuccessfulstarttotheyearwinningdealsforsomeofthe
MiddleEastsmostambitiouslargescaleprojects.InJanuary,theLondonlisted
EPCgiantsecureda$4bndealforthefirstphaseoftheLowerFarsheavyoil
developmentprogrammeinKuwait.
Whenfullyoperationaltheinitialphaseisexpectedtoproducearound60,000barrelsofoiladay.Petrofacisleadinga
consortiumwithGreecebasedConsolidatedContractorsCompany(CCC)asitspartner.
InFebruary,PetrofacwontwooilfieldservicecontractswithAlgerianstateownedoilcompanySonatrach.Underthefirst
agreement,thecompanywillprovidemultidisciplineengineering,designandprocurementservicesforSonatrachsupstream
hydrocarbondevelopmentprogramoverafiveyearperiod.
ThesecondagreementwillseePetrofacestablishajointventurewithSonatrachtoundertakeengineeringandprojectexecution
ofselectedupstreamanddownstreamdevelopments.
InNovember,2014thefirmbaggedasecondcontractextensionfromSouthOilCompany(SOC)forsupportonitsIraqCrude
OilExpansionProject.The12monthextensioniswortharound$106mnbringingthetotalvalueofthecontracttomorethan
$300mnsinceitwasfirstawardedin2012.
ThecompanywasalsoselectedbyBPinIraqtoprovidegeneralconstructionmanagementservicesforthehugeRumaila
oilfield.Thepotentialvalueofthedealhasbeenputat$500mnandwilllastforthreeyears,withanoptionforfurthertwo
yearextension.
Meanwhile,theEPCcontractorreportedrecordyearendbacklogof$18.9bn,up26%from2013whenordersstoodat$15bn.
However,itsaiditexpectedalowerthanforecastnetprofitof$460mnthisyearduetothefallinoilprices.

Saipem
Saipemenjoyedanotherstellaryearin2014/15,securinganumberofhighprofilecontractsintheMiddleEast
andbeyond.
SaipemwillworkonanEPCcontractrelatingtotheexpansionoftheonshoreproductioncentresattheKhurais,Mazajiliand
AbuJifanfields.
Theconstructionofnewfacilitieswillallowtoprocessadditional300,000barrelsperdayfromtheKhuraisfield,whilethe
installationofnewsatellitefacilitieswillreinstateproductionof200,000barrelsperdayfromtheAbuJifanandMazalijfields.
TheKhuraisfieldislocatedabout150kmnortheastofRiyadhanditisagiantoilfield,127kmlongandcoveringanareaof
2890km2.
UmbertoVergine,SaipemsCEO,commented:ThisnewcontractistheresultofoursuccessfulprojectdeliveryinSaudiArabia
andstrengthensourrelationshipwithSaudiAramco,akeyclient.
SaipemishighlycommittedtothedevelopmentofthestrategicSaudisnationalresources.Furthermore,indrilling,Saipem
securedanewcontractforPerroNegro7jackup,operatingoffshoreintheMiddleEast,startingfromNovember2015untilthe

endof2018.
PerroNegro7isaselfelevatingdrillingunitcapableofoperatinginwaterdepthupto375ft.Saipemhasalsobeenawarded,
bydifferentclients,newcontractsrelatingtonineonshoredrillingrigsoperatingintheMiddleEastandinLatinAmerica,with
thevalueofcontractsrunningintothebillions.
Inaddition,throughitssubsidiarycompanyErsaiCaspianContractorLLC,theorganisationrecentlywonamajornew
engineeringandconstructioncontractintheCaspianRegion.
InaconsortiumwithDaewooShipbuilding&MarineEngineeringCo,itwasawardeda$1bndealThiscontractunderlinesour
excellenttrackrecordinakeymarketforSaipemandIlookforwardtothecontinueddevelopmentofourpresenceinthe
CaspianRegion,workingwithourlocalpartnerstodeliverahighqualityservicetosomeofourmostimportantclients,said
Vergine.
Thescopeofthecontractincludesyardengineering,fabricationandprecommissioningactivitiesaswellastheloadoutof
55,000tonnesofpiperacks.

InMaythisyear,theSouthKoreanEPCgiantsignedacontractwithRussiasGazpromtobuildafloatingLNGterminal,dueto
bedeliveredbyNovember2017.
Thecompanyisalsoduetobuildanddeliverfour150,000m3MosstypeLNGcarriersforMalaysiasPetronasundera$850mn
deal.

consolidateyetmoretowardstheendoflastyearwhenitannouncedamegamergerwithSamsungHeavyIndustries.

However,thismovewasscupperedwhenaccordingtoreportstheamountofstockbuyingrequestedfromshareholders

refineryinthecityofBasrainsouthernIraq.
Thecontract,whichwasawardedbytheMinistryofOilsSouthRefineriesCompany,isanEPCdealthatwillseeitincreasethe
petroleumproductioncapacityattheplantfollowingtheintroductionofanewfluidcatalyticcrackingunit.Theawardfollows
onfromanearlierdealwoninJune2013forittoprojectmanagetheupgradeofarefineryinKarbala.
InNovemberlastyearTechnipscoopedacontractforprojectmanagementconsultancy(PMC)servicesforphase2oftheNasr
fielddevelopmentproject,awardedbyADMAOPCO.
ThePMCprojectwillbecompletedby2019andwillcontributetotheNasrfieldannualproductiontargetof65Kb/dofcrude
oilbyusingoffshoreprocessfacilities,wellheads,pipelinesandfacilitiesonDasIsland.
VaseemKhan,presidentofTechnipintheMiddleEast,commented:Thiscontractisasignificantachievementanditreflects
ADMAOPCOstrustinourcapabilitiesindeliveringkeyprojectsforthem.ThisnewawardcontinuestoreinforceTechnips
positioningonPMCactivities,leveragingitslonglastingexperienceinexecutingcomplexprojects.
TechnipwasalsothecontractorofchoiceforBPsultradeepwaterprojectintheGulfofMexico.ThedealwillseeTechnip
