WhentalkingaboutthemostinfluentialAmericaninthehistoryoftheUnited
StatespeoplethinkofwellknownpeoplelikeAbrahamLincoln,HarrietTubman,
ThomasEdison,orHenryFord.Butpeopledonttalkaboutthepeoplethatarenot
knownliketheotherslikepeoplethatmadeabigimpactbutthatarenotnoticedfor
whattheydid.OnemanthatmadeahugeimpactonAmericaandtheworldwas
JamesNaismith.Youmaynotknowhimbutyoumayknowsomethinghecreated.Hes
themanthatcreatedthesportbasketball.HewasbornonNovember6,1861.Heused
toteachataYMCAforkidsandteens.Thedirectortoldhimheneededtomakeagame
thattheteenswouldlikeduringthewintersincetheywerenotabletogooutside
becauseoftheNewEnglandcoldweather.Hehad14daystocreateitandhetook
ideasfromdifferentpopularsportslikefootball,soccer,andrugby.JamesNaismithwas
themostinfluentialAmericaninthehistorybecausepeoplenowplaythesport,he
inspiredthecreationoftheprogramNbaBasketball,anditbecamesuccessfulasa
sport.
BeforeJamesNaismithcreatedbasketballtheworldhadmanychanges.OnJuly
