As the 30-year-old womans story unfolded, I knew I was visiting a
modern day miracle.
She was born with a rare chromosomal defect that caused heart
failure when she was just months of age. Two of her siblings had
the same occurrence and didnt survive.
She had a heart transplant as an infant and another one when she
was 12. She takes 22 medications every day.
In January, she was in the hospital with leg cramps from Lyme
disease. Since her Lyme treatment, she has painful episodes in
her neck and legs. She suffers from many conditions, including
osteoporosis, hypertension, dyslipidemia, GERD, restless legs, to
name a few.
We rehashed her pain and her symptoms and I proposed that
perhaps her leg cramps were from the statin usage. We contacted
her cardiologist who approved discontinuing the statin.
When I called the member for a follow-up, she was so thrilled to
report she was feeling much less pain. She was so thankful for
this intervention as she had been in pain for months!
I was so grateful to be able to help her. Her courage, faith and
perseverance are a gift I got from her that I will never forget.
