Free Mover exchanges are accepted only in exceptional cases, for example when a student has family relations in the
proposed destination country. Diak cannot accept the destinations that Finlands Ministry for Foreign Affairs
considers as regions with safety risks. Furthermore, Diaks travel insurance is not valid in those areas. Each proposed
Free Mover exchange is treated and accepted or rejected separately by the International Office.
How to arrange a Free Mover exchange
If a student wants to propose a free mover exchange it is her/his own responsibility to contact the placement
provider and inform them of the aims and requirements of the Study Unit.
The student should send the placement organisation the following documents:
Like in other Diaks exchanges, Free Mover exchange students are expected to take care of the exchange
arrangements by themselves (travel arrangements, visas, vaccinations, work permits, travel notifications and other
needed documents). Futher, Free Mover exchange students are entitled to apply for Diaks exchange grant.
How to apply for a free mover exchange
Students applying as Free Movers should follow Diaks normal application procedure. In the application form (in
Mobility Online) the exchange programme should be selected to be:
Other student exchange (if the content of the exchange is studies or studies and work placement)
Other work placement (if the content is only work placement)
In the text field write the details of the organisation. If the name is not yet known,
write the country in which you are looking for the placement. In the Additional
Information field you should state your reasons for applying as free mover.
