Outline

Introduction
Hook- With the advent of the western civilization, the convenience it provided has increased the quality
of life for mankind by enabling human to extract resources from nature in a larger proportion than
before to construct the present highly- developed society.
Connecting information- . In the past, humans harmonized with mother nature taking only what was
necessary but, with the appearance of western philosophy such as anthropocentrism by Aristotle and
conquest-oriented view of nature of Bacon, humans began to strip excessive amounts of resource from
nature leading to environmental issues and ethical dilemmas that did not exist in the past.
Thesis statement- With these considerations, the advent of the western civilization caused more harm
than the convenience it provided to mankind.

Body1
Topic sentence- lead to changes in the perspective of the way humans see nature.
What the western civilization overlooked was the consequence from all the excessive exploitment and
destructive technology that eventually boomeranged back into an environmental mess for future
generations to handle. Although the western thought have increased efficiency and provided
convenience, the outcome became unbearable for our descendants.

Body2
Topic sentence- the western civilization has brought about ethical disputes that would not have been
mentioned.
As this trend becomes a mainstream in numerous societies, people with relatively more resources and
methods of production started to treat the socially deprived as a tool for accumulation of money. The
downfall of the status of the socially deprive resulted in human alienation and materialism that cuts
down human dignity. These ethical disputes is rooted out from western civilization causing an
unethical dispute over which should be prioritized.

Body3
Topic sentence- some say that the exploitment of nature has been an engine of growth for the
resource-rich developing countries (Cronin 63), however this is not the case for the overall mankind,
for it leaves permanent scars.
The rights to harvest natural resources are mostly overridden by multinational corporations and
governments who invest much more than the locals thus leaving nothing left (Cronin 72-73).
It does not bring the non-western civilization the foundation to develop but falls into a state of a colony
for the powers and an environmental mess.

Conclusion
Restate Thesis- the advent of the western civilization caused more harm than the convenience it
provided to mankind.
Opinion- These problems should not be handed over to the next generation but rather should be
tackled during our time. To overcome these manmade catastrophes, government need to collaborate
with NGOs in order to analyze the degree of pollution and to pressure corporations to clean up after

their mess. Moreover, to the center of attention back to human and harmonizing nature, education
towards children on philosophy that focus on preservation of the environment.
