Summary
C.Ganapathy Chettiar, passed B.Sc(Engg) in Civil Engineering with first class and
Distinction from University of Kerala in 1961 , winning gold medal from University for
being First rank in Civil Engineering. Passed M.Sc(Engg) in Structural Engineering
from the College of Engineering Guindy, of University of Madras in 1963. Joined as
Lecturer in I I T Madras in 1964 and retired from service of IIT Madras in 1997. He was a
German Academic Exchanage Service (D A A D) Scholar in 1969-71 and conducted
research in Technical University, Berlin, Germany. He received Ph D degree from IIT
Madras in Structural Engineering in 1973. He was an Alexander von Humboldt Research
Fellow in Ruhr University Bochum, Germany in 1977-78. Since 1978 was Professor in
Ocean Engineering Department till 1997 and was engaged in setting up the excellent
Laboratory facilities and research and development in the field of ocean Engineering. He
was Head of Ocean Engineering Centre from 1982 to 1986. He was engaged in several
consultancy and Sponsored research projects. Guided 15 PhDs and several Master of
Science by research, and M.Tech Thesis. Has Published many technical papers in
international Journals, Indian Journals, and in Proceedings of International and national
conferences. From 1998 he was a Professor in Malaysian Universities till 2002. Since
2002 he is professor Emeritus in Civil Engg Dept at SXC College of Engineering
,Kanyakumari District .He was a visiting Professor University Technology PETRONAS,
Malaysia from Sep 2008 till Feb 2009.
