The instructor . . .

Qualitative
Whatdidyoulikeaboutthiscourse?
I liked that we were able to choose a topic that interested us and pertained to what we are teaching.
Concepts were challenging, and it was new learning. I liked how we worked on our final paper part by part which led to the end result!
The content of the course is very important. knowledge of research in education is required for an educator.
I liked the discussions and weekly discussions online.
I liked the flexibility of the instructor.
Even though much of the material was dense (for me), Dr. McNary made it relatable with our teaching backgrounds. The lectures were helpful
because it clarified details from the text with graphics, visuals, anecdotes, and learning experiences.
I thought the professor was very good at gently moving us toward a topic for our research proposal. I might have had a hard time settling on
something, but we did some brainstorming activities and in-class writing assignments, and before I knew it, I had a topic. I'd say the professor worked
to make a stressful and demanding class as low-stress as possible. I also appreciated that, although there were many written assignments, he always
handed work back at the next class meeting, with thoughtful comments. I've had classes here at TU where I didn't receive a grade until the end of the
class. This was a sharp contrast. I also felt the professor explained things clearly, doing his best to make sure that all students understood the
concepts, which sometimes weren't easy. I learned a great deal and enjoyed the class.
I like the peer review that we did with our papers. I also like the discussion boards. It was interesting to see others views on things and what they
were doing for their research.
I have never used a research article to do no more than use it for sources to reference in formal writing classes. This class showed me how to
decipher research articles to analyze sections more in-depth.
I was intellectually stimulated in each class session. This was a very challenging course but I appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow as both a
professional and a student. I like that I've been able to apply some of the skills that I learned in this class to other aspects of my life. For example, I
have never been taught how to critically read a text (If I have, it just didn't stick). After taking this class, I have found myself being more critical about
the reading I do for my own pleasure. I have also been teaching my students to question the author when reading text. I found this class to be very
useful and I'm glad that I took it.
The various examples of studies relating to what we were discussing. Provided me with something I could relate to and understand, as opposed to
just concepts and definitions.
I liked that most of the assignments all built upon one another, leading to the final project. It made each assignment feel worth the time to complete.

Whatcouldbeimprovedaboutthiscourse?
I think that if the class activities and discussions lined up with the readings and online discussions, I would have been able to gain more from the
overall class.
More hands on?
Everything is good.
I think the way that the mid term is graded needs to be modified. The instructor allows for the students to receive half credit for corrected answers
after mid term is graded. With the additional points my class average decreased. The basis for the extra points should be to increase the grades not
decrease it. I still am unclear how these points were added but I know using common sense that the extra points should help not hurt. Syllabus
should be revised so that all due dates are clear. In the current syllabus, multiple assignments are listed with one due date at the end but they are
not all due on that day. This document could be revised so that it is clearer. Also, if the Instructional Technology students are being combined with
the Education students then there should be more of the class geared toward the Instructional Technology because during this class more of it
focused on the Education students only.
Nothing: I felt supported in my learning; the class was a fair balance of work.
There was a little confusion about the timing of the first article review.
I think that sometimes the discussion boards were due close to the time another assignment was due and sometimes it was hard to complete them
with all of the other work had I to do for my job. I would have been helpful to spread them out to weeks where there weren't any big assignments
due.
Communication with students about what assignment, etc. is due. For example, there were some students who did not know certain assignments
were due on certain days. Most of the instructors I have had at Towson would send an e-mail about what was coming up so that students would be
on task with their assignment.
I know this is a content-heavy course but after a long day at work, it was sometimes difficult to stay with the lectures. I'm not sure this can be helped.
Just need more coffee.
More rubrics describing expectations for each assignment and how you will be taking points off. Less reading. I did not do most of the readings but I
am still able to follow along and complete the discussion board posts and other written assignments.
Having discussions due on Fridays was confusing, as other assignments were due Wednesdays. Having one day for all assignments would help to
stay organized.

I did not know much about the different kinds of research methods, so it was helpful to learn about them.
Research in education is very important. It also help you to teach and know you students.
It is a requirement for this program of study.
For students like me who do not have a research background, this course was paced well, and Dr. McNary makes the content enjoyable.
Yes, this was a valuable and interesting course. One of the best I've had here at TU.
It was very informative and the instructor was very knowledgeable about the topic.
If someone is interested in research, this is a good course for them. Dr. McNary is very likeable and friendly. He is also always willing to help you.
Very interesting class; however, it can be very difficult to follow.
This course helps you understand how to read research. I wish I had taken this as an undergrad instead of right before finishing grad school.
Scot was friendly and encouraging. Knew the content well and did not try to hide what he was less practiced in.
The professor is reasonable and the workload is managable.
