Self Awareness is having a clear idea of your personality,
including strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs,
motivation, and emotions. It allows you to understand other
people, how they perceive you, your attitude and your
responses to them in the moment. Self Awareness is also
about how you see people belonging to different cultures
from yours.
Self awareness is developed through practices in focusing
your attention on the details of your personality, behavior
and emotions. It isnt learned from reading a book. It is
learnt from experience gained out of your comfort zone.
Building self- awareness could be done in many ways, using

WHAT IS CALLIGRAPHY?
Calligraphy is a visual art related to writing. It is the design
and execution of lettering with a broad tip instrument, dip pen,
or brush , among other writing instruments. Modern calligraphy
ranges from functional inscriptions and designs to fine-art
pieces where the letters may or may not be legible. It flourishes
in the forms of wedding and event invitations, font design and
typography, original hand-lettered logo design, religious art,
announcements, graphic design and commissioned calligraphic
art, cut stone inscriptions, and memorial documents. It is also
used for props and moving images for film and television,
testimonials, birth and death certificates, maps, and other
written works.

WHAT DOES A CALLGRAPHER DO?


Today a calligrapher uses calligraphy alphabets as a guide for
creating attractive texts and lettering. They create beautiful poems,
notes, letters, quotes, and stationary. Calligraphers are often hired to
write diplomas and event invitations, especially wedding invitations.
A calligrapher work with a number of different tools- calligraphy
markers, traditional or modern calligraphy pens.

EBRU- PAPER
MARBELING

WHAT IS EBRU ART?


Marbling is the art of creating colorful patterns by
sprinkling and brushing color pigments on a pan of oily
water and then transforming this pattern to paper. Each
pattern has its own spirit of nature. It is believed to be
invented in the thirteenth century Turkistan. This
decorative art then spread to China, India and Persia and
Anatolia. Seljuk and Ottoman calligraphers and artists
used marbling to decorate books, imperial decrees, official
correspondence and documents.
Ebru can be performed not only on the paper but also
the clothes, wood and potteries. Ebru art has many
applications in daily life where it is used to enhance the
decor and look of the goods. This patterned paper is
extensively used in the binding of books and within the
calligraphic panels in Turkey. In addition to this, "ebru"
works are often framed as pictures and used all over the
world as a piece of decoration. Other than paper work, the
pattern is often designed on leather, glass, cloth, furniture,
book covers, notebooks, invitations, and many other areas
to reflect the unique glamour of this art.

WHAT DOES AN EBRU ARTIST DO


AND WHERE DOES ONE WORK?
Ebru artists usually work freelance for various
companies that would like to make a difference by
using the artists original designs in producing
various products such as clothes, cups etc. and in
designing invitations , posters, booklets, book
covers, wooden furniture etc. sometimes
combined with the calligraphy art. They can also
be employed as instructors to teach the art in
various institutions.

WHAT IS PHOTOGRAPHY?
The word photography comes from two ancient Greek
words: photo, for "light," and graph, for "drawing." "Drawing
with light" is a way of describing photography. When a
photograph is made, light or some other form of radiant
energy, such as X rays, is used to record a picture of an object
or scene on a light-sensitive surface. Early photographs were
called sun pictures, because sunlight itself was used to create
the image.
Today, photography has become a powerful means of
communication and a mode of visual expression that touches
human life in many ways. Most of the billions of photographs
taken today are snapshots--casual records to document
personal events such as vacations, birthdays, and weddings.
Photographs are used extensively by newspapers, magazines,
books, and television to convey information and advertise
products and services. Today photography is widely recognized
as a fine art.

First and foremost, photographers take pictures.

WHAT IS FOLK DANCE?


Dance is a part of life. In almost every society all
around the world from the beginning of time people have
danced. They expressed their feelings through dancing.
Dance is a way to express an emotion or thought through
movement. It's a way for a community to come together.
Its a way to have a conversation, and a way to exercise.
Dance can be not only a part of life, buta way of life.
Different forms of dance have come naturally from each
other through the course of history. The first known form
of dance is tribal, done by the worlds most primitive
cultures.
Folk dance is a form of dance developed by a group of
people that reflects the traditional life of the people of a
certain country or region. The steps of folk dances are
passed through generations, rarely being changed. They
reflect the lifestyle, culture, characteristics and clothes of
a certain society.

WHAT DO FOLK DANCERS DO AND


WHERE DO THEY WORK?
Professional folk dancers can be employed as
instructors in various national or international folk
dance institutions , general schools and vocational
dance schools. They can also work freelance for
various companies by performing in opening
ceremonies, introductions of some products and
services provided by these companies and be paid a
fee for each contract or performance. They could
dance for live audiences or in recorded performances
for television, film or music videos. They might
perform in venues including theatres, film or TV
studios, hotels, halls and cruise ships.
