What is Aardmans
Aardmans are an animation company that have produced many famous
Claymation films and shorts. Their most famous production is their Wallace and
Gromit franchise which was one of the first Claymation franchises to have a
feature length film.
The history
1972
Aardmans has been running since 1972 when Peter Lord and David Sproxton
began their animating partnership at school. Their goal was to create an adult
audience for animation. peter and David met Nick Park at the national film and
television school in 1985.
1986
In 1986 Peter Gabriel suggested that they partnered up with director Steven
Johnson and the brothers quay to produce a new rock video. Sledgehammer
went on to collect most of the awards that year. They had made an original style
that people loved, it was then later used in Nina Simons My baby just cares for
me which made that video a success.
1993
Aardmans achieved another big goal in 1993 for Nick Parks Wallace and Gromit:
the wrong trousers, their first 30-minute film; it became one of the most
successful 30 minute animated films to date.
1996
They went on to produce peter lords Oscar nominated short film: wats pig and
again it was for channel 4.
1998
Aardman won a BAFTA for their short film, stagefright which was commissioned
once again by channel 4.
2000
Known to many, Chicken run was the first feature length theatrical film which
grossed $220 000 000 or 152,900,000. There arent many people who havent
watched chicken run.
2005
Wallace and Gromit's first feature film The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was released
by DreamWorks in October 2005. The film topped the box office charts in both
the US and UK and received many prestigious international awards including the
Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film and a BAFTA for Best British Film.
2007
Flushed away was the first CG film that DreamWorks released in 2006 though it
only got put up for a BAFTA in 2007.
2008
On Christmas day Wallace and Gromit: a matter of loaf and death was aired
capturing a record shattering audience of 16 150 000 people. It was nominated
to win an Oscar for best short animated film but it sadly didnt win, but it did win
a BAFTA for best animated short film. Because of this, every Wallace and Gromit
film has a BAFTA to their name and all have been nominated for Oscars.
2010
In 2010 they launched a new 6-part series for Wallace and Gromit called Wallace
and Gromits World of Invention. It was produced and broadcast with BBC 1. An
accompanying game and website were developed, extending the audience
across multiple platforms and went to win the company their first BAFTA in new
media.
2015
The fifth series of Shaun the sheep is made and its half an hour special is made
for Christmas 2015, the special is called Shaun the Sheep: The Farmers Llamas.
