whytheJimCrowlawswasissuedinthefirstplaceisbecausetheWHiteswereoppressingthe
blacks.WHatJimCrowlawsrepresentedwastohaveblacksandwhitebeequalbutseparate.
Butthatswhattheysaiditwouldbe.TheJimcrowlawswasthelawthatopressedtheAfrican
Americansforthelongesttime.TheJimcrowlawscausedtheseparationbetweenblacksand
whites.WhattheJimcrowlawsdidwasitaffectedmanypeople'slivesnotonlyinthesouthbut
inAmerica.TheJimCrowlawshurtthecoloredpeoplebecauseitneverviolatedthe14th
amendmentbutitclearlydid.Formorethan80yearstheJimCrowlawsaffectedhumans
especiallycoloredeachandeveryday.TheAfricanAmericanswerenegativelyimpacted
becausetheywerenotallowedtocommunicateunlesstheWhiteinitiatedcontacttothem.
AnotherreasonisthatBlackswerenotallowedtoservecertaingendersorraceswhichhurt
theirbusinessesandthelastreasonisthatBlacksweredeniedtherighttovotebythe
grandfatherclauses.
Whenwethinkofcommunication,wethinkoftalkingtotheperson.Whenwewantto
knowapersonweusuallygouptothemfirstandintroduceourselves.Butnotinthethecaseof
thetheJimCrowperiod.Atthistimecoommunicationwashardwhensomeonewasacolored
person.InthedocumentJimCrowLawsandLifeunderJimCrowitstatesABlackmalecould
notofferhishand(toshakehands)withawhiteperson.Duringthisspecificeraandtimethe
JimCrowlawsColoredpeoplewerenotallowedtomakecontactwithWhitesunlessthewhite
peopleintroducethemselvestothecoloredpeople.InthiscasetheAfricanAMericanswerenot
allowedtoshakehandswithWhitesandalsoaccordingtothedocumentWhitesdidnotuse
courtesytitlesofrespectwhenreferringtoblacks.Instead,BLackswerecalledbytheirfirst
names.BLackshadtousecourtesytitleswhenreferringtowhites,andwerenotallowedtocall
thembytheirfirstnames.Atthatpointitshowsblackneverhadtherighttocommunicatewith
WHitesonafriendlylevel,theyalwayshadtocallthembyauthority,
AnotherreasonwhyAfricanAmericanswerenegativelyimpactedbytheJimCrowlaws
isbecausetheAfricanAmericanshadslowbusinessesbecausewhitecustomersorwomen
neverwouldgototheirbusinesses.SuchasinthedocumentitstatesBarbers.Nocolored
barbershallserveasabarber(to)whitegirlsorwomen.Sothatasyoucansayhurtthe
businessesoftheAfricanAMericansbecausetheJimcrowlawsdidnotpermitwomenand
childrenspecificallywhitewomenandchildrentobeinblackbarbershop.Sothatreallyshows
howaffectedAfricanAmericanbusinesseswere.Thelackofpeoplethatcould'vecameinfor
incomedidnotcomebecauseoftherulesoftheJimCrowlaws,whichisreallyunfairforAfrican
AMericanshops.
ANotherreasonisthatAfricanAmericanswerenegativelyimpactedwasbecausethey
werenotallowedtovotewhatsoever.THereasonwastheJimCrowlawsinstitutedthe
Grandfatherclausewhichaccordingtothedocumentmeant(lawsthatrestrictedtherightto

votetopeoplewhoseancestorshadvotedbeforetheCivilwar).SOthatnegativelyimpacted
theAfricanAMericansbecausethantheyhadnosayintheirgovernmentandthatisaverybad
thing.ItalsoimpactedthedailylifebecausetheAfricanAmericansdidnotcontributetothe
governmentwiththeirvotesandhadnosayonwhowouldgovernthegovernmentbecauseof
theclauseandbecauseoftheJimCrowlawswhichaffectedthedailylivesofeverybody.
ThisisthereasontowhytheAfricanAmericansliveswerenegativelyimpacteddayin
anddaynight.
