What type of container keep

cold water the longest?

Experiment

Objective
We want to know What type of
container keep cold water the
longest? which prove by the change
of temperature from each container
that can keep cool water.

Objective
This experiment is important for our real
life because we will know which container
can keep cold well so we will use that work.

Hypothesis
If container can keep temperature stay
almost the same then it was a best
insulator.

Background research
Heat conduction:
Heat transfer by molecular agitation without mass
motion. If one of them has higher temperature then
energy or heat will flow to the lower one.
Heat convection:
Heat transfer by mass motion of fluid; air or water. The
hotter one such as hotter water will be above cold water
and another example, hotter air will be up higher than the
colder one.

Background research
Heat evaporation:
If part of a liquid evaporates, it cools the liquid
remaining behind because it must extract the necessary
heat of vaporization from that liquid in order to make the
phase change to the gaseous state.
Conductor and insulator:
Conductor is opposite with the insulator. If anything
with good conductor then itll be bad insulator, and in the
same time bad conductor makes a good insulator. Good
conductor meaning theres good heat transfer, but if its
good insulator will means its bad heat transfer thats
occurring.

Background research
Specific Heat
The amount of heat per masss unit is increase the
temperature by one degree Celsius. The relationship of
specific heat will appear when the temperature is
changing as equation below.
Q = mct
High specific heat can cause the movement or the
motion to be faster than the lower one. This is including
getting energy and losing energy as heat into the
atmosphere as well. Example of specific heat in each

Procedure
1. Decrease the temperature of water, make it
cold.
2. Prepare 3 containers that have different
type are wood, metal, and plastic.
3. Measure the temperature of cold water.
4. Equally put cold water in to each container.
5. Close the container opening.
6. After each 2 minutes, measure the
temperature.
7. Measure 5 time of it then collect the data.
8. Clean!

The metal is farther increasing temperature than wood

and plastic. The wood can keep temperature almost the
beginning temperature which is 8C more than the metal and
plastic too.

Conclusion
From the experiment we can conclude that Wood was the best
container that can keep cool water for the longest time. Wood is
best insulator for this experiment so that show our hypothesis is
correct. The best insulator can keep cool longer the best
conduction because container can conduction heat to the water so
the best insulator bad in conduction which difficult to heat the
water by conduction.
Metal was the best conductor of heat. Wood has higher
specific heat so they need more heat from environment to heat
liquid inside up. Heat will transfer by convection in the air when
the air blow and touch with bottle there will be a process that
exchange heat. Metal have low specific heat so their temperature
increase rapidly in a short period of time.
