Edyta Witek Teaching Portfolio Task 3: REFLECTION ON LEARNING

1.

I have found The Learning Pyramid very interesting and it is a great example to talk

about it when it comes to the use of oral tasks when teaching grammar. Lectures are the least
effective way to pass the knowledge. Reading and audiovisual help are also not at the highest
point of the pyramid. When a teacher wants to use of oral tasks when teaching grammar the
best way to do it is to first demonstrate then discuss the issue or topic with students so
everybody can actively participate and if necessary ask and next students should practice and
try to teach others. Verifying and choosing the best seating arrangement is also important to
successful teaching grammar. A teacher while grammar lesson should be focused on the
meaning and the form and try to transmit it in a simple but interesting and unusual way so it is
memorable to students. The phrases ,clarifying and focus, used in the slides during lecture
have changed in your thinking about the issue by putting more depth in a sense of
:presentation (P), guided discovery (G) or self-directed discovery (s).

Accuracy is the precision with which we can use the language systems. By exercises

which need the restricted output form a student so very precise and limited when it comes to
options to choose, such activities can be used to for instance elicit a drill in a dialogues from a
student or writings but not free writing however writings with ready phrases to fill in. Fluency
is the easiness with which we can use the language skills. Restricted output activities arent
free it their assumption but we can transmit fluency oriented activities to such strictly limited
of freedom tasks. For example games can be partly accuracy (questions) and fluency
(answers). Accuracy activities are great for beginning learners who dont have the language
awareness and wide range of language skills to deal with free fluency oriented tasks. The
older a learner is , the better can cope with introducing and practicing fluency oriented
activities because of the better understanding of his/her background knowledge in L1 and
rules which a child is not able to struggle with.
