Changes Project
Aim : get to know and use opposite adjectives
Objectives : at the end of the lessons students will be able to say many
adjectives, differentiate good and bad adjectives, match antonyms adjectives
Teaching aids : adj and names of characters of The Secret Garden printed on
separate pieces of paper, flashcards with pictures
The procedure :
Lesson 1
In a carpet/ circle : A teacher has got a set of easy adjectives for young learners.
One by one they draw lots with one adj. Teacher asks if they know what does it
mean to be(adj)..? Students try to explain in L1/L2 they make very short
scenes. To help teacher has flashcards with a scene presenting each adj to match
with words. Half of the adj are printed on pink and half on dark paper. Teacher
asks why it that? Half of the adj are good adj and half are bad . We all try to
match antonyms to make pairs. Drill and mime the words. We glue them on a big
piece of paper
Lesson 2
Revision of the previous lesson, drill the adj.
Game : Teacher has got the same flashcards with a scene presenting each adj
and papers with words . Teacher puts them in a visible place in a class ,says adj
and students have to run to correct picture and word. Teacher repeats the game
but next time only with pictures/ only with words.

Teacher has a A4 piece of paper with many, small holes cut, and hides a flashcard
behind the paper, students guess what adj it is. Teacher has got names of
characters of The Secret Garden printed and reads descriptions of each
character. Students listen and when they hear adj which they have printed out
they put it next to the name of particular character
Lesson 3
We count how many good and bad adj has got every character and mime the adj
In groups : every group is given one character with his/her adj and group has to
find and write opposite adj. All the adj in this exercise were covered on the first
lesson.
Teacher scaffolds and leads students that this exercise shows that the characters
CHANGED.
All class looks and checks how particular groups changed and students discuss is
the change in a good or bad direction. Every student has to for the next lesson
think of a character from the book/film etc who changed, not every has to have
an example
Lesson 4
Students who know a character from the book/film etc who changed are leaders
in their group. Students discuss about the character and plan to make a poster
about the character change.
It is monitored and controlled very much by the teacher when it comes to
vocabulary and ideas
Students say their ideas to the teacher, teacher accepts them and says his/hers
and they start working on it.

Lesson 5
Students finish their posters and present their work in front of the class. Teacher
gives feedback and place posters on the wall.
