TECHNOLOGICAL PROCESS TO REPAIR JIB OF SHIP DONG DU

I- Damaged condition:
The crane jib is deformed locally by collision with container. Deformed
positions are marked on the drawings.
II- Content of repair and material:
1/ Content of repair:
Replace steel plate of damaged areas:
- Jib of port side with dimensions: 650x600.
- Jib of starboard side with dimensions: 700x600 and 500x600
2/ Material:
Steel plate 2000x6000x8 mm, Grade KA36 is used to replace for steel plate
8mm, Grade D40S.
3/ Welding material: Stick welding electrode- E7018, =3,2mm; 4mm.
III- Work instruction:
1. Stiffen against deform .
- We cant build baselines for checking before and after the repair because
jib is located at high position.
- Use 2 beams H450x200x3800 to stiffen against deform of jib (see
drawing ).
- Use 12 angles L100x100x10x2000 to stiffen against deform of jib (see
drawing ).
2. Work steps:
- Remove damaged plate (only allow to replace different position after have
already replaced one damaged position);
- Clean edges of the steel plates, prepare butt welds;
- Cut, assemble and weld the packing strip 40x8mm.
- Assemble and weld the packing strip on the bottom of the jib;
- Cut material, produce replaced section (angle L part) at workshop, stiffen
against deform of replaced section;
- Assemble, adjust, tack weld replaced section with jib;
- Report to the QC Department checking the assembly.
- Clearly grind slag of tack weld before welding horizontal joints (follow
sequence welding);
- Fully weld the bottom of jib.
3. Inspection for quality:
- Check welds: test MPI.
- Check, loading test by requirement of Class NK.
