INSTRUCTIONS
1. The Spanish Oral Examination consists of two parts a reading passage and an
interview.
2. Part I is a Reading Passage to be read out loud. You would be allowed 5- 10 minutes
to select one of the passages and prepare to read it.
3. In Part II you will also be asked several questions by the teacher on three (3) different
topics.
4. Select one of the topics from those provided and prepare to read it during the oral.
5. You will be assessed by your teacher using the scoring guide provided in this paper.

READING PASSAGES
Select and Prepare One of the Passages below.
Buying Fish
Hoy es viernes. La seora Moreno y su hija, Anita, van a la pescadera para comprar pescado.
En la pescadera, hay muchos tipos de pescado. Al llegar, se puede or los sonidos ruidosos de
los pescadores.
-Trescientos bolvares el kilo! Pescado fresco!
La seora Moreno va al puesto de su vendedor favorito.
-Buenos das, seora Moreno. A la orden! dice el vendedor.
-Buenos das, seor Machado. Quiero medio kilo de pescado, por favor.
-Qu tipo quiere hoy seora?
-Prefiero el tiburn. Parece muy fresco.

Espaa
Espaa es un pas de contrastes. Consiste en 17 comunidades administrativas. Cada regin
tiene sus propias caractersticas. Muchos visitantes van a Espaa cada ao para gozar las
playas, montaas y lugares histricos. Una regin costera famosa es la costa al este llamada
Costa Brava. Tambin es popular la Costa del Sol en la parte sur. Las dos estn frente al
Mar Mediterrneo.

A trip to Puerta La Cruz


Hoy, 17 de abril, Juan sale de Trinidad con su grupo de alumnos y profesores de su escuela.
Van a Puerta la Cruz, Venezuela, para pasar 3 das all. En esta ciudad, hay una corrida de
toros y otras actividades de inters. Los muchachos llegan temprano al aeropuerto y suben al
avin. Estn muy alegres. Les gusta muchsimo esta visita a Amrica Latina.

Roberto talks about himself


Hola! Me llamo Roberto. Tengo catorce aos y vivo en Trinidad. Soy alto y flaco. A m, me
gustan muchsimo los deportes: ftbol, baloncesto, crquet... Crquet y ftbol son muy
populares en las islas del Caribe. A los jvenes, les gustan salir con amigos o jugar con
juegos electrnicos y qu lastima!, no leen mucho. Me fascinan tambin los animalitos: los
peces, conejos, pjaros, perros, y sobre todo, serpientes.

The Jewelry Store


Los sbados por la maana, me gusta ir de compras. Como adolescente, recibo 50 dlares
cada semana de mi padre. Me los gasto en las joyas y la ropa. Me gusta comprar anillos y
pendientes. Cuando voy a la joyera veo una variedad de artculos. Para mi cumpleaos, me
gustara obtener un anillo de oro.

The Siesta
Una seora norteamericana est de compras en Mxico. Son las dos de la tarde. Descubre a su
horror que las tiendas estn cerradas.
Le pregunta a una polica.
-Oiga, seor!. Qu pasa aqu?
Le explica que es la siesta, una costumbre hispana. La gente regresa a casa a descansar unas
horas despus del almuerzo.
- Lo entiendo, seor. Mi marido practica esta tradicin cada da.

minor structural or pronunciation errors. Accurate use of

Fairly adequate use of vocabulary.
Understands some questions, requires considerable repetition.
Answers few questions, speech is unnatural with great hesitation,

vocabulary but responses are comprehensible.
Understands very little, little or no attempt to respond. Speech is
halting and fragmented, with long unnatural pauses.
Conversation is virtually impossible. Little or no responses

anglicisms, is barely comprehensible.
