Marshall Street School


Students/Staff
Ages 5-21
5-7 students per class with one teacher and 3
paraprofessionals
All students have a significant cognitive impairments that
may impact their skills in the area(s) of communication,
self-care, academics, fine motor, gross motor, and behavior.

Classrooms 1 elementary class, 1 medically fragile


class, 5 self-contained classes, and 2 classes that rotate
between reading, math, activities of daily living and prevocational skills
All students have the opportunity to participate in
adapted physical education, art, and music

Marshall Street School

Hybrid Program Twelve students are participating in


the Marshall Street Hybrid Program this year. This
program gives the students more opportunities in the
areas of vocational skills. Their reading and math
instruction is geared toward how they will be using the
information to perform vocational task.
Community Outings Students have the opportunity to
participate in community outings two times per month.
They go on trips to stores, restaurants and sites related
to leisure activities.

Ages 18-21
Students attend the Job Development Program after
completing four years in a high school life skills class
Classes are made up of 7-9 students with one teacher and
1-2 paraprofessionals
All students have a cognitive impairment that impacts their
skills in one or more areas
There are five teachers in the Job Development Program.
These teachers focus on vocational training and skill
development.

Program include:

Career Exploration Trips
Job Coaching
Transition Skills class at Washington County Technical High
School
Hagerstown Community College Campus Connection
Program 7 students and 3 staff members have a
classroom on the HCC campus. They complete classwork in
the morning and work on campus in the afternoon.

Renovations 2015
During the Summer of 2015 renovations occurred to the
Marshall Street building:
A larger activity room was created from existing space for
physical education
Two new classrooms were constructed
Bathrooms were redesigned and improved
A door was installed on the art room classroom
A parking lot was created for adaptive equipment so that
the hallways are wider and more accessible
The cafeteria was relocated to an enclosed space to make
the building quieter
A new generator was added to support our medical needs
during an emergency
