OUR WAY

OF LIFE
REAL VALUE, SAFETY AND THE ENVIRONMENT

A GLOBAL
COMMITMENT
TO A BETTER
WAY OF LIFE
As a leading global automotive brand, Suzuki takes its
social and environmental responsibilities very seriously.
We see our role as developing smart products that put
our customers needs first, with a focus on quality
and value, and the utmost respect for the environment.
A Worldwide Reputation For Quality And Value
Creating Value Packed Products has been the cornerstone
of Suzukis manufacturing philosophy since the company
was founded in 1909. The Suzuki trademark is recognised
by people throughout the world as a brand that offers
reliability, affordability and originality. Suzuki stands behind
this global symbol, continuing to create advanced Value
Packed Products that meet the needs of its customers
in a rapidly changing world and with a determination to
maintain a confidence in the future.
As part of our aim to create high value for our customers,
we are committed to the practice of sustainability, both in
the design of our products and in the way we operate our

businesses throughout the world. We are continuously striving

to improve fuel efficiency, decrease exhaust emissions,
reduce noise, alleviate environmental impact and improve
recyclability related to the disposal of end-of-life vehicles.

Global Charter Leads the Way

Suzuki became industry leaders when our Global Environment
Charter was established in 2002. Our production plants are
working to reduce energy consumption and thus reduce
CO2 emissions. Natural energy sources such as wind-turbine
power generators are being used more and more, while the
first micro-hydropower facility has been installed at Suzukis
largest Kosai plant.

Our Global Charter also ensures that we

work to reduce industrial waste and manage
chemical substances to minimise our
environmental impact. Energy and resource
saving activities, from power saving programmes
to recycling office materials, are practiced at all our offices
throughout the world.

In New Zealand, Suzuki has been the long

term supporter of the Carbon Crusade,
a series of events where competitors
participate in an off-road run (or walk) and
plant trees as part of the activity. In 2008 well over
5,000 trees were planted in Carbon Crusade events run in
four regions.

As part of our involvement in local communities, Suzuki Motor

Corporation participates in clean-up projects and purification
studies at rivers, lakes and beaches. SMC have organized
long-term volunteer activities such as tree planting and bush
clearing in a government owned forest called Suzuki Forest.

We want people to enjoy using our products, and we want

them to join us in helping to ensure a better future for our
children. Its all part of Suzukis global commitment to a
better way of life.

Improving fuel economy

With its focus on compact, fuel-efficient vehicles, Suzuki
has created one of the cleanest, most economical vehicle
fleets in the world today. Further advances in fuel economy
are being achieved by constantly improving engine
efficiency, drive systems, vehicle weight, and air resistance.

Reduced emissions
Suzuki has the lowest CO2 emissions across its vehicle
fleet of any mainstream brand (top 12 makes) sold in
New Zealand. Our 2008 rating of 174.3g/km is already
close to the government proposed 2015 standard of
170g/km. As an indicator of things to come, the facelift

2009 Grand Vitara range has some models dropping CO2

emissions by over 13%.
The Grand Vitara diesel is fitted with particulate filters
for the elimination of soot from the exhaust, while the
majority of our petrol engines feature variable valve timing
to produce higher outputs from smaller capacity engines.
Suzuki will continue to be an industry leader in improving
overall fleet efficiency and clean energy.

Heading for Zero Emissions

After gaining certification for its experimental range of
compact, fuel-cell powered mini-vehicles in 2003, Suzuki

The Suzuki Global Environmental Charter established 2002

was recently responsible for the first domestically produced

vehicles equipped with 70MPa hydrogen tanks. The
revolutionary SX4-FCV, a fuel-cell powered vehicle based
on the SX4, is setting new standards by being among the
first in the world to produce zero emissions.
Suzuki has recently joined the national JHFC (Japan
Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Demonstration) project, performing
tests on public roads and working to improve the durability
and range of fuel-cell electric vehicles.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

Suzuki is at the forefront of recyclable vehicle design,

employing recyclable materials in exterior and interior

resinous parts. This is an important development that
allows for easy recycling of end-of-life cars.

ESP Delivers a Total Safety Package

In its efforts to continuously improve vehicle safety, Suzuki

has created its TECT (Total Effective Control Technology)
mode, which includes a lightweight shock absorbing body
designed to reduce the effects of frontal and side collisions
as well as reduce pedestrian impact.

Available on select models, ESP* (Electronic Stability

Program) supplements stability with three major functions:
ABS with EBD, traction control and stability control. Using
various sensors to determine and hold the intended
cornering line, the vehicles traction and stability is greatly
enhanced.

In addition, all passenger vehicles are fitted with a comprehensive package of active and passive safety technologies,
including ABS* with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution),
SRS airbags, head impact pads, side impact beams,
decoupling mechanisms for brake and clutch pedals, 3-point
ELR seat belts, child seat restraints and seat anchorages.
* ABS brakes not available on Jimny JX. Standard fitment on Jimny Sierra model.

Security is assured with engine immobilisers now standard

in all new models. A built-in ladder frame increases the
rigidity and durability of of the Grand Vitara and Jimny
range without significantly adding to their overall weight.

In a collision, front and rear crush zones progressively
absorb impact energy, while the frame design directs
energy away from occupants. The highly rigid cabin
structure further benefits from side-impact door beams,
reconfigured side members, and other reinforcements.

Real Value Means What It Says
Suzukis Real Value pricing is designed to minimise the cost
of life of your vehicle purchase. By including on-road costs
in our retail prices, offering 15,000 km service intervals
and five years roadside assistance, we can help reduce the
overall costs throughout the time of your vehicle ownership.
And when its time to sell, our Real Value policy helps you to
retain the highest possible value for your vehicle.

Reliability Proven Internationally

Suzukis commitment to exceptional build quality has
been illustrated by being declared the most reliable make
of car in Britain. Warranty Direct, a leading independent

automotive warranty specialist in the United Kingdom,

analysed 35 brands with Suzuki achieving the best rating
ahead of Honda, Mazda, Skoda, Toyota, and Hyundai.
Infrequent visits to dealers and service departments, fast
repair times and longevity of the product helped to push
Suzuki clearly into the top position.
Prominent UK motoring journal Auto Express also elected
the 1.6-litre 3-door Grand Vitara as the least expensive
model to own and run in the Compact Sport Utility Vehicle
class. All major financial factors of car ownership were
considered, including purchase price, depreciation, fuel
economy, servicing and insurance.

one simple aim: we wanted all New Zealand
drivers to be able to own a new car.

Economy and Real Value a Winning Combination

Suzuki vehicles have long been recognized for their
outstanding economy. This has been demonstrated yet
again in the 2008 AA Energywise Rally, where the versatile
SX4 i-AWD the 2 litre, 4 wheel drive variant of the popular
SX4 range won the Small Lifestyle/Leisure class. The thrifty
SX4 beat off challenges from a strong array of both petrol
and diesel powered rivals including Kia Sportage 2.0 diesel,
Hyundai Tucson, Honda CRV and Subaru Outback 2.0 diesel.
Despite relatively high average speeds and varying road and
weather conditions, the SX4 averaged 6.7 litres/100km over
the 1,641 km route. In fact, all the Suzuki models entered

achieved better economy than their factory figures suggest,

some by up to 22 percent (see chart).

New Zealands fastest growing brand

Suzuki has a long and proud history in New Zealand.
Suzuki vehicles were originally imported by the Coleman
Family from the early 60s. The Suzuki Motor Corporation
purchased the distributorship from the Coleman family in
1984 and continues to operate from the city of Wanganui,
a location very central for both our Automobile and
Motorcycle activities.

fastest growing mainstream brand in New Zealand. Sales

have increased by a massive 329% since 2004 at a time
when the total market has only increased by 2%.
Globally, Suzuki will produce approximately 2.7 million
vehicles in 2008, many more than competitors such as
Mazda, and Subaru. In New Zealand, Suzuki continues to
grow with the reassurance that we are backed by one of the
largest and financially sound global businesses in Japan.

In 2005, Suzuki Motor Corporation introduced the Swift as

the first of their new global models. Since that time Suzuki
sales have gone from strength to strength to become the
