Pronunciation 13
Instructions: Read the passage.
Since so many people are [ar] learning to read the
English language [langwij], why [hwi] not include
phonetic clues [klooz] in written text to help explain
words that are difficult to pronounce? Most students
need to see a phonetic clue [kloo] only once [wuns].
The next time they see the word, they will recognize it
without a clue. If they [tha] forget, they can always
look back at the phonetic clue and be reminded of the
words correct [korekt] pronunciation. The reader can
[kan] also refer to the pronunciation key and review
the phonetic [fonetik] alphabet [alfabet] when
necessary. With this approach [aproch] to teaching
reading, students can quickly [kwikle] learn to read
and speak correct English.
