J-45
The J-45 has been the workhorse guitar
of Gibsons flat-top family for half a
century. Its round shoulder body, with
mahogany back and sides, produces
the perfect balance of volume and
tone, providing the J-45 with
unmatched versatility.
J-45
The J-45, quietly introduced while America was
fighting World War II, represents the perfection of
a round shoulder body style that began in the
1930s with Gibsons Jumbo and J-35 models. The
sunburst J-45 and natural-finish J-50, with their
spare ornamentation and rich tone, became the
perfect companion for the musician who is all
about playing music. The J-45 also served as the
model for such famous Gibson flat-tops as the
Southern Jumbo played by Woody Guthrie and the
J-160E acoustic/electric used extensively by the
Beatles.
More than any other guitar, the J-45 defines the
famous Gibson flat-top sound. Today it heads up
an entire family of round shoulder models,
including the fancier Southern Jumbo, the
rosewood-body Advanced Jumbo and the
affordable Working Man 45.
