J-185
The J-185 appeared in 1951, introducing a
subtle new combination of design elements
with its maple back and sides and its
comfortable, 16-inch jumbo body shape. The
result was a distinctive new flat-top guitar sound.
The J-185s clear voice and balanced tone caught
the attention of discerning musicians, including
the Everly Brothers, who used it as the model for
their famous signature Gibson model of the
1960s.
Todays J-185 provides the foundation for a
full line of innovative guitars, ranging from the
L-4A Cutaway to the electrified J-190 Fusion
to the ultra-fancy J-2000 Cutaway Custom.
