Middle School Mathematics

6th Grade Math: Students learned how to solve one-step equations and were introduced to circle concepts!
Manipulatives were used to help students understand the meaning of a balanced equation and what a variable
represents. Using inverse operations, students solved one-step equations with addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division. Students are currently learning about radius, diameter, circumference, and area of
a circle and how these concepts are applied to the real-world!
7th Grade Math: Students learned about functions and angles! Students used concepts of functions to model
relationships between quantities. To reinforce discrete and continuous data, students looked at vinyl and
digital soundwaves! The difference in the sound waves reflect different types of functions. Next, students
learned how to classify angles and applied algebraic concepts to solve equations within angles. Real-world
examples were used to reinforce the concepts. UP NEXT: Polygons
8th Grade Math: Students learned how to write linear equations. Using provided graphic organizers, students
wrote the equation of a line from a graph, two points and in point-slope form. Real-world application was
applied to reinforce the concepts. Currently, students are learning how to write the domain and range of a
function from a graph and from the given points.

Pi Day was a success! Thank you to everyone that participated and supplied some pie! The
middle and lower school collaborated during math class to participate in Pi Day activities.
Students learned about the history of pi, discovered the true meaning of pi, and calculated pi
using real-world objects.
