HOLIDAYS IN THE USA AND BOLIVIA

It is widely known that holidays are enjoyed by many people who want to have a
moment of break in their busy lives, it is also considered how many times these especial
days are celebrated during the year depends on where they are celebrated. For example,
Russia has forty public holidays becoming it the country with the highest number of public
holidays around the world. Moreover, in the American continent Brazil has the highest
number of public holidays with thirty-five days that are taken into account as holidays.
However, it is not so important how many days are considered holidays in a country, the
real issue is how people enjoy these days with a cultural significance. That is why
countries like the United States and Bolivia have peculiar ways to celebrate their holidays.
The United States of America is characterized by not having so many holidays as
other countries. Although, they are celebrated with a singular American spirit by each of its
citizens. For example, Thanksgiving, the most famous around the world, moves the entire
population in a unique sense of gratitude and appreciation for all the things they got during
the year, not only material things but also spiritual feelings and important achievements.
This holiday promotes the sharing with family, especially with the distant relatives. This
kind of holidays and the other ones that are characteristic of the country, such as the
Fourth of July that is celebrated with a great sense of patriotism, are experienced with a
unique cultural identity by American people. It expresses their own ideology about their
past as a cultural legacy and their future as a time of preserving the appropriate values. It
is a real witness of how the United States celebrates peculiarly their holidays.
In Bolivia, the context really changes when it is about holidays. Outside of the fact
that Bolivia has more public holidays that the United States of America, these do not have
the same cultural experience. Bolivian people are more likely to celebrate their holidays
just taking them as days off. However, each holiday has a particular way that makes it

more interesting to experience. For example, Carnivals are really lived with joyfulness and
enthusiasm by almost all Bolivians, especially during the events where people dance with
the folk music. Bolivian holidays are more related with the feeling of keeping the ancestral
traditions as a meaningful legacy and wishing for better times for their lives. For this
reason, Bolivian people have their particular style of experiencing their holidays.
In brief, the experience of celebrating a holiday in the United States is really
different that it is in Bolivia. Both have their particular way of living a holiday by their
population. Even though, ancestral traditions and their legacy are more valued in both
cases. That is why people from both countries enjoy their holidays. It does not matter
where you celebrate a these especial days, at the end you will always enjoy any holiday.
