Hi Name,

Hope you are well. With the one-year anniversary of Pope Francis Climate
Encyclical coming up on Saturday, June 18, Im wondering if you would be
interested in speaking with some sources from the Global Catholic Climate
Movement about how churches across the country are playing a role in
creating a more secure climate future.
I can offer Tomas Insua, the founder of the Global Catholic movement, which
was launched as a result of the Climate Encyclical, or Patrick Carolan of the
Franciscan Action Network, who launched the Catholic Climate Petition, which
received a million signers.
Examples of how faith community and churches are embracing climate
change leadership, particularly renewable energy, include:
-

St. Thomas Aquinas in Palo Alto, CA installed 104 solar panels at

two of three churches in the parish to produce 60 percent of their
energy
St. Teresa of Avila Parish, San Francisco, CA took a number of
measures to reduce electricity and saved 36 percent on natural gas, 8
percent on electricity and 18 percent on its total energy cost compared
to the previous year
St. Marys Cistercian Monastery, Wrentham MA installed a wind
turbine, which offsets more than half of their energy needs
Sacred Heart Parish in Prescott AZ saved $65,000 with the
parishs solar panels and energy saving initiative

Let me know if you want an interview about the intersection between climate
change and faith, and well get it set up ASAP.
Best,
Jessica Zahurak
