WHAT IS
Competency:
Characteristic of an individual which enables him/her deliver superior performance in given situation.

Clusters of Knowledge, Attitude, Skill Set.

Competency Mapping:

Identifying key competencies of Individuals, Job, Organization.


Incorporation of those competencies through various processes : Job Evaluation, Training,
Recruitment.

Competence: Ability/Capacity acquired through


learning that can be through trainings or experience in
job.
Competency: Skill/Knowledge that is in-built, can
also be termed as a attitude to learn.
Both need to be enhanced for better performance &
Quality output

Motives: things a person constantly thinks about or wants which result in
action.
Traits: physical characteristics and consistent responses to situation or
information.
Self-concept: a persons attitudes, values, or self-image.
Knowledge: information that a person has in specific content areas.
Skills: the ability to perform a certain mental or physical task.

Competency Mapping & Assessment

It is a process designed to consistently


measure and assess staff
performance as it relates to the
expectations of the organization.

Steps for Competency Assessment


Specs Determination: Positions to be mapped are identified.
Data Collection: Information is gathered to identify the
attributes and competencies required for each position.
Competency development: Attributes and competencies are
identified and behavioral descriptions are created for each

Validation: Competencies, attributes, and their corresponding


descriptions are evaluated for how accurately they describe
performance requirements and to ensure they are aligned with and
support the organization's objectives.
Implementation: Gaps in competency levels, if any, are identified
and appropriate training and learning action plans are evolved for
developing those lacking competencies in the employees.
