About the presenters:

ANNE SQUIRE
Anne Squire
Dip. T., B. Ed. (Special Education)
Graduate Cert. Down Syndrome

Anne Squire began her career as a classroom teacher in Junior/Middle


Primary, and was appointed as a Demonstration teacher early in her career.
This was followed by an appointment as a Special Educator in Preschools.
Anne was responsible for establishing the first pilot program integrating children with
disabilities into South Australian preschools.

In 1987 Anne was invited to apply for the position as Preschools Consultant with the
Down Syndrome Society. This position was expanded to include Early Intervention
primary and Secondary School consultancy, Training and Development locally and
interstate, writing support materials.

Anne has played a significant role in the development and implementation of the
Society’s “cutting edge” Resource Kit - Right to Know …about Friendships, Sexuality, and
Protective Behaviours. . Anne has extensive experience not only in the education sector,
but in the Society’s Leisure & Recreation Programs, Work experience and Early
Intervention.

Anne is the Society’s Education Consultancy Services Manager

JILL PHILLIPS
Jill Phillips
Dip. T., B. Ed. (Special Education)
Graduate Cert. Down Syndrome

Jill Phillips has been an Education Consultant for the Society for the
past 14 years. Jill is a trained teacher with Post Graduate studies in
Special Education. Jill has been a Consultant in Preschools, Primary and Secondary
Schools.

Jill has been involved in writing support materials for Junior Primary and Primary Schools
with a particular focus on Maths, Literacy, and Behaviour Support. Jill has also been
employed by Department of Education and Children’s Services (DECS), in collaborative
projects supporting students with Down syndrome in a range of settings.

Jill has established Life and Work Education programs for adults with intellectual
disability. The aim of the programs are to develop life skills that will enhance their ability
to live independently, and to gain and maintain employment. The curriculum includes
literacy, numeracy, money management, food preparation and nutrition, and
interpersonal relationships.

Jill manages the Society’s Leisure and Recreation program since 1995.
