REFURBISHMENT OF RUTHERGLEN LIBRARY

CBES successfully tendered for the extension of Rutherglen Library
Architect: and conversion of the former Post Office into a Library fit for the
South Lanarkshire 21st century, new Active IT centre and heritage base.
Council
Rutherglen Library celebrated its centenary in 2007, while the Post Office building
is 100 years old this year, having been gifted to the people of Rutherglen by the
QS: millionaire Scots philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie.

The works will include the demolition of all internal walls and floors leaving only
Project Value: the external façade and roof. This involves significant structural & engineering
£1.35m works to maintain the integrity of the building, which is listed Grade A.

Project Duration: The library will be totally refurbished and extended into the adjacent Post Office.
12 months
An additional challenge is that the extension will be carried out whilst the library is
still open to the public.

A significant portion of the works will be carried out by CBES employees and will
include mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roof works and the installation of a lift.
