Monroe Community College Board of Trustees Monday, June 9, 2008 Meeting

Commentary
After going into executive summary twice, Chairman Richard Guon announced that the
board would appoint an interim president and thus begin a new presidential search.
It was very discouraging that no explanation was given as to why Mr. Dennis
Kessler or Dr. Laurence Spraggs were not qualified to be MCC's next president.
It is illogical to expect that a new search, with the same board in place, will
yield better results. Albert Einstein's definition of insanity (doing the same
thing over and over and expecting different results) appears to apply to the
board's decision to start a new search.
The honorable thing for the board to do now is to offer their resignations. They
have concluded a failed search and have thus failed our community. Only by having
an apolitical board will highly qualified presidential candidates have confidence
that a new search will truly be merit based.
Finally, the incivility that Mr. John Perrinello showed toward Mr. David Ladwig,
the departing student trustee, was embarrassing to our college. During a vote on
a ceremonial resolution commending Mr. Ladwig for his year of service on the
board, Mr. Perrinello shouted out that he abstained from the vote. Mr.
Perrinello's meanness put a damper on what should have been a friendly farewell
to one of our finest students. Written by John Wadach, MCC Faculty Member
