If you’re short on hay and want maximum

tonnage from a summer annual grass: try
• Summer Supreme BMR Sorghum
Sudangrass has similar energy levels
as corn silage and about twice the
protein. Excellent drought tolerance
and can be cut in 40 days from plant-
ing. 2nd and 3rd cuttings 30 days.
Seeding rate 50-60#. Apply 40# nitrogen
per cutting; seed at 3/4” depth. $4400/50#.
Soil temp must be over 60 degrees.

• Haymaker Sudangrass: (Not Sorghum-Sudan) Thin stemmed hybrid for round

baling or dry hay. Very heat and drought tolerant. Multi-cuttings every 30
days. Seeding rate 25-30# (smaller seed)/acre. Apply 40# nitrogen/cutting.
• Tiffany Teff: Produces high quality grass hay (similar to timothy without the
stems) in a short growing season. Plant height ranges from 36” - 40”. Teff is
tolerant to both drought and wet conditions. Seeding rate 8-10#/A. Must be
seeded no deeper than 1/4” with firm seedbed. Soil temps must be over 60
degrees.
