USTER classimat is used for the detection and classification of faults in the yarn. We can also
cut the yarn faults, but this is not done for production point of view.
HISTORY:
The introduction of the USTER® CLASSIMAT 1 in 1968 revolutionized the checking and
determining of yarn quality in production and commerce.
The later models CLASSIMAT 2 and CLASSIMAT 3 optimized and extended the application
possibilities.
The USTER® CLASSIMAT QUANTUM offers even more advanced classification possibilities.
With the introduction of the USTER® STATISTICS 2007, the USTER® CLASSIMAT
QUANTUM is the only international classification standard accepted worldwide.
For the first time, foreign fibers and vegetables can be reliably classified.
Foreign fibers are classified into 27 classes according to the FOREIGNCLASS®, recognized
worldwide.
The USTER® CLASSIMAT QUANTUM also gives the possibility to define new customized
classes called “Tailored classes”. With the introduction of the USTER® STATISTICS 2007, the
USTER® CLASSIMAT QUANTUM is the only international classification standard accepted
worldwide.
EFFICIENCY OPTIMIZATION:
With the USTER® CLASSIMAT QUANTUM, we can check cleared and uncleared yarn,
providing classification of thick and thin places, as well as checking infrequently occurring yarn
defects and foreign fibers in the yarn. We can determine the optimal limits for yarn clearing,
analyze new material and competitors products – and improve the quality and value of your
yarns.
1
We get benefits from the following advantages:
• Assess and track contamination level of your raw material according to the origin.
• Defining customized classes allows targeted monitoring of individual faults for foreign
fibers.
The organic foreign fibers (vegetable matter such as cotton leaves, stems, seed-coat fragments
and bark) disappear after further processing and do not influence the appearance of the yarn.
They can therefore stay in the yarn.
This information allows conclusions to be drawn regarding the cotton used, its quality and
degree of soiling.
2
SCATTER PLOT:
By representing classification events as a scatter plot, the USTER® CLASSIMAT QUANTUM
considerably improves analytical capabilities. It is now possible to see exactly where each event
lies within the classification matrix.
The representation clearly illustrates, for the first time, the body of the basic yarn and the
exceptions. This allows a quick understanding of quality and an objective method to define
clearing limits.
3
TAILORED CLASSES:
The USTER® CLASSIMAT QUANTUM for the first time gives you the possibility to define
new customized classes called “Tailored classes.” The system can classify and present the events
in the tailored classes for thick, thin and foreign fiber events.
Further advantage:
4
CAY SYSTEM:
USTER® CAY (Computer Aided Yarn clearing):
Using the scatter plot, the clearing limits can be edited graphically using the mouse for thick and
thin places as well as foreign fibers. A projection on the number of disturbing events is presented
immediately after definition of the new clearing limit.
5
Simulation of all yarn defects and their effect, either in yarn (such as USTER® GRADES) in
woven or in knitted fabric according to choice. It is thus easy to determine the clearing limits.
USTER® STATISTICS:
We can compare our measuring results with the international quality benchmarks directly on the
screen. This way, we always have our desired quality standard under control.
With the USTER® CLASSIMAT QUANTUM, we have the choice between different ways of
presenting the measuring results. Permanently configured standard reports or individual, freely
configurable report formats can be displayed at any time on the screen and printed via a high-
performance printer.
Detailed reports, statistics and trend analysis of thick and thin places, foreign fibers and
vegetable matter allow reliable, fast recognition of quality fluctuations. Thanks to individual
reports, quality monitoring can be adjusted to your own requirements. Trends can be observed
during freely defined periods of time. The results can be displayed in various configurable tables
and graphs, printed, and compared with USTER® STATISTICS or individual customer
statistics.

and foreign matter. Classimat basically consists of a creel on which packages are mounted and
they are passed through a quantum clearer and then wound on cone package. When yarn passes
through the quantum the faults are detected and classified by the software in the connected
computer.
On the system the operator has option of feeding specifications and the observed material
parameters, the operator can feed parameters in ARTICLE column on the computer. The settings
for NSLT faults are adjusted according to the material requirement. Similarly the settings for the
foreign matter are done on the display screen. CAY (computer aided yarn clearing) system is an
optimization tool installed in classimat used for fine tuning of settings of electronic yarn clearer
on the auto cone to avoid complaints and to make yarn quality up to the mark. In CAY system
we have the option for minimizing faults by graphical adjustment of the curve and checked by
simulating the yarn faults.
Our study was based on 100% cotton combed ring spun yarn of 40Nec bobbins for knitted
fabrics. Following results were observed, Reports are attached for further reference:

The results show that Quantum clearer installed on the machine is working efficiently as
the imperfections in the yarn are in acceptable limits.
USTER® CLASSIMAT:
It classifies faults in 23 different categories. From study of faults and research, the origin of
faults has been tried to find. And tables are formulated from the research with the origin of
faults.
The tables are attached with the assignment for further references.
