INTRODUCTION

This study is all about organization study as well as the solution of the problems
which is importance to every student and have chooses HMT. As the company for which can
make a study or Organization to put myself to a corporate exposure.

Marketing has evolved or a large scale and gained significance from the used 90`s
after which cherished professor Phillip introduced it is a scientific manner and revealed its
amazing implementation results. Marketing simply as stated by American marketing
association, “it is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion,
and distribution of idea, goods, and service to create exchanges that satisfy individual &
organization objectives.” Ever since the concept of marketing has been adopted in India it has

RJS Institute of Management Studies Page 3

Hindustan Machine Tools Ltd.

been used in different contexts at the results have also been different than the ones in the
other countries. (Thus marketing in India has been a topic of attraction of many researchers
recently). Is current economic conditions of favorability the Indian economic is experience in
the peak of the activity and thus application of marketing is more than visible is each & every
product. Also, since marketing affects the visibility of the product, success of product directly
depends upon it. The scope of my study is “customer satisfaction”.

Marketing is the process of identifying the consumer wants and needs &making the
product to satisfy these, the term includes advertising, distribution & selling of a product of
service. It is also concerned with anticipating the customer’s future needs and wants, often
through market research. A marketing – forced, or customer-forced, organization first
determines what its potential customer`s desire, and then builds the products or services.
Marketing theory and practice is justified is the belief the customer use a production or
service because they have a need or because it provides a perceived benefit.

Two major factors of marketing are the recruitment of new customers (acquisition and
the retention and expansion of relationships with existing customer’s base management) once
a marketers has converted the prospective buyer, base management to building a relationship

Hurrying the links, enhancing the benefits that sold the buyer in the first placed and
improving the product/ service continuously to protect the business from competitive every
encroachment.

For a marketing plan to be successful, the mix of the four “Ps” must reflect the wants
and desire of the consumers in the target markets.

COMPANY PROFILE

The idea of setting up a machine tool industry in the public sector is germinated only
after India gained its freedom in 1947 the government found itself with around Rs.4000
million surplus raw materials including a number of machine tools. The war disposals
utilization committee set up during 1948 to advice the establishment of a machine factory.

In 1949 the government of India decided to enter into a joint venture with these Swiss
firms M/S OBERLIKON Machine tool works. Butcherly and company Zurich. They were to
buy 10% of the equity in the proposed company.

markets primarily due to their cost competitive as compared to that available elsewhere.

The vision of the Indian machine tool industry is now step out and establishes a
relative presence in other potential markets. World over, market leaders have been those who
have looked to increase their presence beyond their national frontiers.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Each manufacturing unit has its own in house design wing specializing in the related
line of manufacture. Most of HMT R&D activities were put on formal and time foundation in
early 1947 when an NC lathe Machine was taken up for specializing in research at Hyderabad
called as central Metal Forming Institute.

The R&D center has developed more than 100 new types of machine tools. This
mainly includes 29 variants of turning centers. 19 variants of machine centers, 3 variants of
CNC system and a host of other CNC systems. Recently the R&D center in collaboration
with Baba Research Centre, Mumbai. It has developed 3 pair of servo manipulators for use in
nuclear environment for handling radioactive waves for maintenance of equipments of hot
cell. They also have scope for application in non nuclear sectors such as toxic chemical
industries, space research, and Defense sector.

The company today has facilities carrying out CAD. Testing and evaluation of
machine tools, well equipped prototype building center and electronic system laboratory for

PRESENT STATUS OF HMT

HMT is contributing to significant capacity established in Bangalore. HMT is to focus

for major automotive ventures such as Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, Volvo, Skoda, Ashok Leyland,
Hindustan Motors and TVS, where there is consistent demand for machine tools in south
India. HMT Machine tools Ltd would be investing Rs. 180 crores of total packages of Rs.
723 crores given by the center for its revival and aim to double its turnover to 500 in next five
years. The company optimism stems from the prospect of accessing working capital freely
after setting off its debts and reducing the costs through a fresh voluntary retirement scheme
and increased the productivity from replacement of its over four decades old plant that would
be in place soon.

The revival package has infused new life into the ailing HMT, which once guided the
prospects of the manufacturing sector through its indigenous machine tools. For the long
term, HMT Machine Tools would be seeking joint venture partners. The immediate goal was
to regain its old glory through an initial sustained growth. The effort to increase the turnover
would be accelerated in the niche products with higher value. The company hoped to
rationalize the number of products and focus on only high tech and high valve to derive
higher margins.
