1150 FAMILIES OF MOHAWK HILL AND ENVIRONS 1843 - 1916 LEWIS COUNTY, NEW YORK Compiled and Edited by Herbert A, and Erma B. Schrader 1991 PREFACE The main purpose of this volume was to assemble in one place as much recorded information as possible on as many of the early families of the Mohawk Hill and Southern Lewis County area as our time allowed. All records herein mentioned are from the recorded church records, cemetery grave markers, recorded deeds and wills, census records and obituaries. Also, in one or two cases, from proven family records. The bulk of these families were Catholic, as recorded in the St. Michael's baptismal records which cover the period of 1843 to 1916. The grave markers of the five basic cemeteries involved were all physically surveyed as well as written records of the others. Census records of the area from 1850-1892 were searched for the family surnames, as were some deeds and wills in the Lewis County offices. Families are listed alphabetically by the father's name, with additions and corrections following. The maiden names of the mothers are from the baptismal records, and those known, are listed in a separate index in the back of the volume for easier reference. Another index of maiden names, consisting of the wives of some of the sons of the main families, will also be found in the back of the volume.
