Dear friends from the Philippines,

Greetings!

We are professors of universities in Japan, specializing on international migration of

Filipino citizens, especially nurses and caregivers. Currently, we are working on the
actual conditions of Filipino nurses and caregivers assigned in Japanese hospitals and
other institutions by the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA).

In fact, we have been organizing a research project by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation
entitled “The Global Demographic Change and Labor Migration in Asia.” The outline of
our research project is provided in our website: http://blog.canpan.info/jinkou/archive/10

Now, with the help and cooperation from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office
(Philippine Embassy), we would like to conduct interviews with you in order to learn the
real situations of Filipino nurses and caregivers in Japan. The purpose of the interviews
is to hear your voices directly and identify areas that need be improved so as to better
your working and living conditions in Japan.

We would very much appreciate it if you could provide us the opportunity for interviews
whenever convenient for you. The information we collect during the interviews
including your personal identity will be highly confidential and only used for the
academic purpose.

Thank you for your consideration and we hope to hear from you soon. For any inquiry,
please contact the addresses below.

Sincerely yours,
Wako ASATO (Graduate School of Letters, Kyoto University)
